NAME

cluster modify -- Modify cluster node membership attributes

Page 22: C mode class

AVAILABILITY

This command is available to cluster administrators at the admin privilege

level.

DESCRIPTION

The cluster modify command modifies the cluster attributes of a node,

including its eligibility to participate in the cluster.

At the advanced privilege level, you can use the command to specify

whether a node holds epsilon. Epsilon is an extra fractional vote that

enables quorum to form using slightly weaker requirements. For example,

two out of four eligible nodes are sufficient to form quorum if one of

those two nodes holds epsilon.

PARAMETERS

-node {<nodename>|local} - Node

Page 23: C mode class

Use this parameter to specify the name of the node to modify. If you

do not specify a node, the command runs on the local node.

[-eligibility {true|false}] - Eligibility

Use this parameter with the value true to specify that the node is

eligible to participate in the cluster. Use this parameter with the

value false to specify that the node is not eligible to participate in

the cluster.

If you modify a node as ineligible to participate in the cluster, the

command prompts you for confirmation before it runs.

EXAMPLES

This example modifies a node to make it eligible to participate in the

cluster.

Module 7 slide 14 of the clustered ONTAP 8.1.1 materials lists Cisco Nexus switch 5548 is listed as support technology. It has been confirmed that this is NOT the case. Also, the Cisco Nexus 5010 and 5020 were end-of-life on Dec 31, 2012 (but still supported), the current configurations are as follows:2-8 nodes use NetApp CN16108-24 nodes use Cisco Nexus 5596

Will support Juniper in the end of 2013

How to create and understand vserver name-mapping rules in Data ONTAP Cluster-Mode

KB ID: 1013831 Version: 1.0 Published date: 05/17/2012 Categories: Administration, Data ONTAP 8.0 Cluster-Mode, Data ONTAP 8.0.x Cluster-Mode, Data ONTAP 8.1 Cluster-Mode, Data ONTAP GX

Description

Data ONTAP Cluster-Mode can be accessed by Common Internet File System protocol (CIFS) and Network File System (NFS).

Name-mapping is used to map CIFS users to UNIX users and vice versa.

In the CIFS world, for example, it is known as NETAPP\jdoe, but in NFS (NIS) it is just jdoe. Name-mappings are rules (actually, regular expressions), which are interpreted by the authentication system during login to resolve your identity and gather the credentials you need to access your files. Name-mapping is the first step in the process of ensuring that the person logging in can get to their files, regardless of which protocol they use to access the file server.

Note the similarity of the CIFS and NIS usernames; many organizations that buy NetApp products use a naming convention such as this. If they do, they can use a very simple regular expression that just strips off the CIFS domain name, and the delimiting \ to leave just the username. In other cases, where the correspondence between user names is not direct, they may need to enter a mapping for each and every user. The name mapping rule syntax has extra features that can be used to adjust the case of user names, in case that is an issue.

Name mapping rules use regular expressions to match the source user name, and substitute the matched expression for the destination. The source and destination are specified as the mapping direction: Either Windows - UNIX, UNIX - Windows, or Kerb - UNIX. (Kerberos mappings are only necessary if using a Kerberized NFS UNIX client. Most UNIX clients are NOT Kerberized).

Procedure

Some general guidelines:

Rules are vserver specific. Each vserver can have its own independent set of name mapping rules.

Rules are evaluated in order starting with rules in the first position. The first rule to match the source name wins, and processing stops at that point.

If no rule matches before reaching the end of the list, then a default name will be used. The default name is protocol specific (both CIFS and NFS each have their own default) and it is specified during the setup of the protocol.

To specify the default UNIX user for CIFS, see the vserver cifs options modify command and specify the -default-unix-user field.

To specify the default Windows user for NFS, see the vserver nfs modify command and specify the -default-win-user field.

\ characters must be escaped when entering the rule; escape them with another "\". Windows uses "\" as a delimiter between Domain and Username. So, for example, if you wish to match a single backslash in the source name, put

in two backslashes as follows:

DOMAINNAME\\* -> \1

Use _ to force the matched destination name into lowercase.

Use ^ to force the matched destination name into uppercase.

Use & to force the matched destination name into initial case (the first character is capitalized, and all remaining characters are lower cased; for example, bob -> Bob).

Examples:

Mapping direction: Windows - UNIX

DOMAINNAME\\(.+)  -> \1

This rule is by far, the most common rule you'll see in production. This matches a user whose Login ID consists of the literal characters DOMAINNAME\ plus, at least 1 character, up to any number of characters. The

literal text DOMAINNAME\ must occur as part of the name. The . represents any single character, and the + says, any number of characters may follow. Note that this rule is better than the similar

rule DOMAINNAME\\(*) because it requires at least 1 character to match. The * would match any user name, but would also match a user name without a single character, resulting in a 0 length target name

if a user typed in DOMAINNAME\\, for example.

Page 115: C mode class

Mapping direction: Windows - UNIX

DOMAINNAME\\(.)(.+) -> \_1\2This rule shows an example using multiple arguments. The first (.) will match any single character, and the translation rule on the UNIX side will cause the matched character to become lowercase. The second (.+) will match one or more characters, and the translation rule will cause it to be appended immediately after the first argument, without modification (i.e., no uppercasing or lowercasing). Note that this rule matches only usernames at least 2 characters in length.

Mapping direction: Windows - UNIX

(.+)\\(.+)   -> \2This rule matches any Windows Domain Name, drops the domain and uses only the second matched parameter. This rule can be a little weird because it may result in multiple users being mapped to the same UNIX user. For example:

DOMAINNAME\\root  -> rootDOMAINNAME2\\root  -> rootIn this case, the user root from DOMAINNAME will be mapped to UNIX user root. If someone from DOMAINNAME2 connects with username root, they will also translate to user root.

Usage: mount -V : print version

mount -h : print this help

mount : list mounted filesystems

mount -l : idem, including volume labels

So far the informational part. Next the mounting.

The command is `mount [-t fstype] something somewhere'.

Details found in /etc/fstab may be omitted.

mount -a [-t|-O] ... : mount all stuff from /etc/fstab

mount device : mount device at the known place

mount directory : mount known device here

Page 154: C mode class

mount -t type dev dir : ordinary mount command

Note that one does not really mount a device, one mounts

a filesystem (of the given type) found on the device.

One can also mount an already visible directory tree elsewhere:

mount --bind olddir newdir

or move a subtree:

mount --move olddir newdir

One can change the type of mount containing the directory dir:

mount --make-shared dir

mount --make-slave dir

mount --make-private dir

mount --make-unbindable dir

One can change the type of all the mounts in a mount subtree

containing the directory dir:

mount --make-rshared dir

mount --make-rslave dir

mount --make-rprivate dir

mount --make-runbindable dir

A device can be given by name, say /dev/hda1 or /dev/cdrom,

or by label, using -L label or by uuid, using -U uuid .

Page 155: C mode class

Other options: [-nfFrsvw] [-o options] [-p passwdfd].

For many more details, say man 8 mount .

[root@linux01 vs2]# ls /mnt/vs2/myfile
