Types of Bullying

• Social- This is a type of bullying that can effect someone’s emotions towards friendships or groups.

• Physical- When somebody is bullied physically, they are intentionally hurt.

• Cyber- This is a type of bullying that hurts someone emotionally on the computer.

• Verbal- This is a type of bullying that can include the victim being harassed by the bully through words and can harm the victim mentally.

Statistics

• Almost ¼ Elementary students report having been bullied 1-3 times in last month

• Pennsylvania 4th worst bullying state• 282,000 students bullied each month• 87% shootings for revenge• About half young people in America

experienced form of cyber bullying, and 10-20% experience regularly

Tactics to Eliminate Bullying

• H- Help• A- Assert yourself• H- Humor• A- Avoid• S- Self Talk• O- Own it• Posters put up by teachers & guidance counselors

given individual statistic and basic information about bullying classes.

Our Strategies

• Harder Consequences- Suspension instead of detention with guidance counselor bullying class.

• Entire School Assembly- goes in depth with consequences for the victim like suicide or a need for revenge which results in some shootings.

• Video Cameras in hallways with kid-friendly poster

Implementing our Strategy

• We could talk to principal and get student council involved in making an in depth presentation for school.

• Talk to Art Club make posters• Install small, unnoticeable video cameras

Materials for Strategies

• Well-developed PowerPoint including results• Victims • Announcements about assembly• 2nd Strategy- need small video cameras• Poster supplies and positive messages

Proof our Ideas Work

• Know if strategies work when we take a survey before/after and there are less kids reporting being bullied.

• Bullies notice there is no chance to bully so incidents decrease.

Targets

• Anyone could be a target if they are weak, have low self-confidence, or alone.

• Right place, right time• Middle Schoolers common because have very

low self-confidence due to changes in their friends, bodies, and minds.

• Religious/Racist targets are those with a specific religion or race.

How do Victims Deal with it?

• Victims of bullying display a range of responses, even many years later, such as:

• Telling a teacher or parent• Committing suicide• Telling their problems to a counselor • Bullying others• Bringing a gun to school (over 100,000 students do)• Doing drugs because they were not educated on them

and they think the drugs will make them feel better
