Welcome to MinnamurraLike all cattle breeders across this country, we have faced drought conditions over the last twelve months which have been tough. But we have managed through well enough, and one positive outcome is that it has proved to us what good-doers these Speckle Park cattle are. They are proving themselves good foragers, and in spite of the harsh conditions, the cows are still carrying condition and raising their calves. It’s as though the drought has brought the characteristics of the breed to the fore and has added to our conviction that Speckles have a real place in the Australian herd, which will only continue to grow into the future.

Our philosophy is that to breed good bulls, we have to focus on breeding good females, and the males will follow. Now that we are producing contemporary groups in sufficiently large numbers, we can begin to concentrate on the confirmation and fertility of our female lines, traits that are important in commercial herds. We have introduced two new sires into our AI program this year – River Hill 50T Crusader 025C, the top priced Speckle bull worldwide, and Double S JSF Rawhide 260D, another exciting young sire, which we think will be well suited to the commercial breeding requirements of this country.

Our program was again vindicated in the RNA Paddock to Plate competition last September, where our steers scored the highest individual index out of a field of 400 steers, and gained 2nd and 3rd place in the meat eating quality awards.

The guarantee shall apply providing the bull’s incapacity is not caused by injury or disease contracted since leaving the sale. We recommend annual boosters are given to all bulls. All of our bulls receive 5 in 1 vaccinations at three-months of age, six weeks later and a booster as a yearling. They are drenched at weaning and periodically according to worm counts. Minnamurra has J Bas 7 Johnes status.

For bulls travelling to tick areas, Minnamurra will agist bulls for up to 2 weeks at the buyers risk until vaccinations can be arranged.VET CHECKAll Minnamurra bulls were examined by Dr Chris Hallet prior to sale day which included palpation of the sexual anatomy, semen testing, sperm morphology and pestivirus DNA testing, as well as physical examination of their structure and feet.FEED REGIMEThe bulls were paddock reared and have been supplementary fed with pasture hay and pellets since January. SCAN DATAAll bulls were scanned 11th April 2019 and the data submitted to Breedplan for EBVs. They will be scanned again two weeks prior to the sale and the raw data will be available on the supplimentary sheet on sale day, including scan data for the unregistered bulls.NB: EBVs in the top 10%of the Speckle breed are highlighted with shading. GENETIC TESTINGAll pure bred bulls in this catalogue have been DNA tested for parentage. Two tested negative to the sires used in our AI program. MINNAMURRA TROPICAL SPECKLES

Minnamurra has embarked on a breeding program to produce a line of Bos Indicus infused Speckle Park bulls more suited to the climate of the central north of Australia. Our aim is to produce an animal with no more than 10% Bos Indicus genetics, to give a finely coated animal better able to handle the heat and buffalo fly problems of our northern country, yet retaining the do-ability, carcase traits, meat yield and eating quality that is the strength of the Speckle Park breed.

We have selected purebred Brangus females of no more that 25% Bos Indicus blood with extremely high marbling, eye muscle and maternal figures, which will be flushed to our best sires in a crossing program over the next few years to produce an animal that we hope will find a place in the central parts of our country where the main Australian herd resides.

The first cross bulls in lots 41 to 47 of this catalogue are all out of Minnamurra’s best commercial Angus/Brangus females, joined to Royal Flesh 101Y, a great meat producing sire, and represent a similar type of animal to the tropical bulls we will be producing in the future.
