Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

In Psalm 23:1-3 we read, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake.”

In 1978 with the leadership of our founding pastor, Rev. Ed Abell, Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Community was born. Over the years it has been guided by two other pastors, Msgr. William “Bill” Robertson and Rev. John Upton. I have the distinct privilege of being the fourth pastor of this community of faith. In May of 2016 we embarked on the first capital campaign in 15 years. Thanks to this faith-filled and generous community much needed maintenance concerns were addressed. We completed phases I and II of our vision. Now is the time for us to Continue our Journey and begin with phase III. This phase is about our future.

Over 41 years our parish has grown in faith and population. We have come to a time when almost every day of the week all of our meeting rooms are filled with children, youth and adults growing in their faith. Apart from faith formation, our social hall is reserved for parish organization meetings, auxiliary ministry gatherings, receptions, parish celebrations and more. We are out of space! Through this campaign we will raise funds towards building a fourth building which will provide for a larger social hall, meeting spaces, kitchen and much more. This campaign will also address the bathroom and cry room in our church as well as our obligation to the Archdiocesan IGNITE Campaign.

Our parish will benefit greatly by combining our campaign efforts with the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign. Together, Christ the Good Shepherd parishioners are asked to make a financial sacrifice to meet the needs of our Archdiocese and make necessary improvements to our church and to raise funds towards our new building.

I am asking all of our families to participate. We must pray for the success of this campaign, become involved and make a significant financial sacrifice. When we pray together, we form one Body of Christ. When we work together, we form His church and when we make sacrifices, we give a legacy of service that will ensure our future.

We begin this campaign, with many prayers, gratitude to almighty God, and faith that God will bless our good works. May the Lord guide our work to successful completion.

ADDITIONAL RESTROOMS AND CRY ROOM ...................................... $700,000 This is an approximate 600 square feet addition to the back of the church where the covered drop off is. The plan would be to add a men’s and women’s restroom, as well as a family restroom, to for the added convenience of those attending holy Mass. It would also incorporate handicap accessible restrooms.

The Archdiocesan Capital Campaign

OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ARCHDIOCESAN CAPITAL CAMPAIGN ................................................. $1,164,137

In our Catholic understanding, a parish is a part of a local church. The local church is called a diocese. Every diocese has a pastor on the level of the diocese we call this person the bishop. Christ the Good Shepherd is one parish of 147 that make up the local church of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo is our archdiocesan pastor. As the pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd Fr. James represents Cardinal DiNardo. Therefore our participation in the future of our archdiocese is a good and right thing.

From Fall of 2018 through Spring of 2020, every parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will participate in the IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission Capital Campaign. This very important Archdiocesan-wide campaign will seek to raise $150,000,000 in support of the needs of our Archdiocese in the following areas:

ADDRESSING RENOVATIONS AND MODERNIZATION OF ST. MARY SEMINARY TO INCLUDE: - Construction of new dormitory - Refurbish the plant infrastructure

FUNDING TWO EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENTS: - Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza Inner City Catholic Schools

Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund - Scholarship for Catholic Elementary Schools Endowment Fund

SUPPORTING FAITH FORMATION TO INCLUDE: - Grants to support lay ministry efforts in the parishes - Establishing a Disaster Relief Fund to meet future needs

of parishes in the Archdiocese - Funds for Rebuilding and Strengthening our Parishes & Schools

in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

OurCHALLENGE

FOR 41 YEARS the Lord, our Good Shepherd

has led us to fruitful pastures and He continues to do so as our parish

continues to grow in numbers. Since our founding in 1978, through the generosity of our parishioners, we have been able to accommodate

for our growth by building to fit our needs. After much prayer,

discussion and discernment parish leadership has decided to conduct a capital campaign to address the need for space in our ever growing parish.

Phase III of our capital campaign, Our Journey Continues...

Building a Faith-Filled Future, will include an addition of a

bathroom and cry room in the church, fulfill our obligation

to the Archdiocesan campaign and looks to our future with

the construction of a fourth building.

Combining the Capital Campaigns

As part of our parish Continuing Our Journey...Building a Faith-Filled Future campaign, we have included our contribution to the Archdiocese IGNITE campaign. This adds a commitment of $1,164,137 to our parish campaign goal. By including our commitment to the Archdiocese in our parish capital campaign, we are conducting one all-encompassing campaign instead of pursuing other options such as delaying our capital campaign for needed projects until after the IGNITE campaign. Another benefit of combining the campaign is that we are exempt from building tax on this campaign allowing us to keep more money here at the parish. We will make payments quarterly over four years to address our obligation to the IGNITE campaign, which enables us to use the first money in to address our parish needs.

We Need Your Special GenerosityChrist the Good Shepherd is looking to raise a minimum of $4,500,000 towards the overall costs of our project of through the efforts of this campaign. Every member of our parish community is integral to our success in reaching this goal, and, therefore, each family is asked to consider making a pledge to the campaign to the best of their ability.

Everyone is asked to prayerfully consider how their generosity can reflect their gratitude for the gifts that God has given them. We know that a sacrificial pledge will be a challenge for some of our parish households, therefore, it is vital to the success of our campaign that those who are able to make larger pledges do so.

In Deuteronomy 16:10 we are reminded that – “the measure of your own free will offering should be in proportion to the blessing the Lord has bestowed on you.”

GIFTS OF STOCK: Donors can use their own broker/agent or the parish agent to transfer stock. If the stock has been held long-term (over one year), the donor does not have to pay capital gains tax on the stock, and is allowed a tax deduction for the full value of the stock. Donors may also choose to sell stock in order to claim a loss, which may be beneficial for tax circumstances. In either case, the stock must first be transferred to the parish before being liquidated. Please contact the campaign office for more information.

GIFTS OF PROPERTY, LIFE INSURANCE, ANNUITIES, WILLS OR BEQUESTS: The IRA Charitable Rollover provision of the 2015 PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) Act permits individuals age 70.5 or older to contribute up to $100,000 from a qualifying retirement account directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the charity as income. Please contact your financial advisor for additional information concerning gifts via retirement accounts.

GIFTS FROM RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS: There are different ways to support Christ the Good Shepherd both today and in the years to come via planned giving. Families or individuals can make gifts of real estate, personal property, automobiles, life insurance, estate bequests, annuities or charitable remainder trusts. Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

En Salmos 23:1-3 se escribe, “El Señor es mi pastor, nada me faltará. En lugares de verdes pastos me hace descansar; junto a aguas de reposo me conduce. El restaura mi alma; me guía por senderos de justicia por amor de su nombre.

En 1978, con el liderazgo del Padre Ed Abell, nació la Comunidad Católica de Christ the Good Shepherd. A través de los años ha sido guiada por dos párrocos, Monseñor William “Bill” Robertson y el Padre John Upton. Hoy, tengo el privilegio de ser el cuarto párroco de esta comunidad de fe. En mayo de 2016 nos embarcamos en la primera campaña capital en 15 años. Gracias a la generosidad de nuestra comunidad llena de fe, hemos abordado muchas de las necesidades de mantenimiento. Hemos completado las primeras dos fases de nuestra visión, ahora es tiempo de Continuar con nuestro Camino y comenzar con la tercera fase. Esta fase se concentra en el futuro.

Ya sea que participe asistiendo a una recepción de campaña, respondiendo

en Misa o por correo, es su acto de participación hará que esta

campaña sea todo un éxito.

PLANES DE COMPROMISOS SUGERIDOS

COMPROMISOS EN EFECTIVO O POR CHEQUE: Al llenar su tarjeta de compromiso elija la cantidad de su compromiso y el enganche opcional. Asegúrese de elegir su método de pago; por ejemplo, mensualmente, cada tres meses, cada seis meses, o anualmente. Favor de escribir los cheques a nombre de Christ the Good Shepherd Campaign. Se le enviará sus recordatorios según su plan. Al terminar de llenar la tarjeta de compromiso por favor devuélvalo a la oficina parroquial o por correo.

COMPROMISOS POR LÍNEA VÍA ‘FAITH DIRECT’: Se pueden realizar los pagos a través de ‘Faith Direct’. Para hacer su donación en línea visite www.faithdirect.com e ingrese nuestro código parroquial TX665.

REGALOS DE ACCIONES: Los donantes pueden usar su agente de retiro o el agente parroquial para transferir acciones. Si se ha detenido la acción por largo plazo (más de un año), el donante no tiene que pagar impuestos de ganancias capitales y se le permite deducir el valor total de la acción de sus impuestos. Donantes también pueden escoger vender acciones para declarar una pérdida, cual puede ser beneficial según las circunstancias. DONACIONES DE CUENTAS DE RETIRO: La provisión caritativa del IRA, ‘2015 PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes)’, le permite contribuir a los individuos que tienen más de 70.5 años un máximo de $100,000 de sus cuentas de retiro directamente a una organización caritativa, sin reconocer los valores transferidos como un ingreso. DONACIONES DE PROPIEDAD, SEGUROS DE VIDA, ANUALIDADES, Y TESTIMONIOS: Hay diferentes maneras de apoyar a la Parroquia de Christ the Good Shepherd hoy, y en los años venideros por medio de donaciones planificadas. OFERTORIO: Sus contribuciones semanales a la colecta general apoyan los gastos diarios de nuestra parroquia, incluyendo: formación de fe, educación católica, liturgia, y manteniendo las instalaciones y el personal.

EL FONDO PARA SERVICIOS DIOCESANOS: Cada año la Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston requiere la ayuda de nuestros feligreses a través de este fondo para complementar a los programas y servicios de nuestra arquidiócesis que apoyan a los más necesitados, las escuelas, los ancianos, nuestras parroquias y misiones.

LA CAMPAÑA CONTINUANDO NUESTRO CAMINO...CONSTRUYENDO UN FUTURO LLENO DE FE: Su compromiso a esta campaña debería ser un sacrificio adicional y aparte de sus contribuciones regulares al ofertorio.
