BTEC First Applied Science All energy on earth begins with the sun. It is passed along the food chain in some way to all organisms on earth... Producer A producer uses the energy from the sun directly to make its energy. Plants that photosynthesize are producers. Primary Consumer A Primary consumer derives it’s energy from plants. Herbivores like rabbits are primary consumers. They are the first to get energy from the plants. Secondary Consumer Secondary consumers get their energy from the food they eat. They can either be predators or scavengers. Predators hunt and kill their food while scavengers take what they can from the dead. What you need to do Cut out the pictures of organisms on the first page and make some simple food chains. Which direction will the energy go in? Which direction do you think the arrows should go in? When you have completed this, use all of the organisms on the two pages to create a large food web. Add all of the definitions for the words in bold on this page around your food web. Be as decorative as you like! Making a food chain/web
