CLUSTER TECHforLIFE - WORKING GROUP

CONTACTS

Cluster TECHforLIFE partners have started last June 2016 to attend a series of participatory design workshops that have been taking them to the creation of a research roadmap. Partners gathered around three Working Groups, each one shaping its own research roadmap:

1 - Technologies for the continuity of care

2- Models for health and welfare services for different sectors of market

3- Living environments of the future

Workshops’ attendees have the opportunity to practise a participatory design approach to generate new research themes, share their knowledge and create inclusive research directions from different perspectives.

Laura Boffi, visiting researcher from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID), creates and facilitates the Working Group workshops. She is an interaction and service designer and a researcher in EU funded projects. Her focus is to integrate design thinking and people centered design approach into interdisciplinary research teams. The Cluster TECHforLIFE has had the opportunity to collaborate with Laura thanks to the Int_ARS program - International Attraction for Researchers and Students, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Lecco, Politecnico di Milano and Univerlecco.

What is a Cluster?

A cluster consists of organized aggregations of companies, universities and other public and private institutions devoted to research and innovation. A cluster is suitable to contribute to international competitiveness both of their reference territories and the national economic system.

— Art. 1, comma 4, Bando MIUR D.D. 30.5.2012, n. 257 —

What is the Lombardy Cluster of Tech-nologies for Living Environments?

The Lombardy Cluster of Technologies for Living Environments (also knows as Cluster TECHforLIFE) was created in 2012. It fosters the development of knowledge as well as the implementation of highly innovative technolo-gical applications, plants, buildings and pro-ducts for the social inclusion, safety, wel-lbeing, health and sustainable lifestyle of the inhabitants through an ambient intelligence and assisted living approach. Thanks to its multidisciplinary partnership, the Cluster TECHforLIFE is able to include all phases of the development of products and services: innova-tion, integration, testing, marketing. The Lom-bardy Cluster of Technologies for Living Envi-ronments is one of the six founding members of the National Technological Cluster for Living Environments.

ACTION GROUPS

Since 2013 the ClusterTECHforLIFE is pre-sent in all six Action Groups of EIP on AHA (European Innovative Partnership for Active and Helathy Ageing). With the Inno-vation Union strategy the European Com-mission aims to enhance European competi-tiveness and to tackle societal challenges through research and innovation.

Specifically, these Action Groups are:

•A1 Adherence to prescription

•A2 Falls prevention

•A3 Functional decline and frailty

•B3 Integrated care

•C2 Independent living solutions

•D4 Age friendly environments

REFERENCE SITE

Since 2016 the ClusterTECHforLIFE became reference site with the partnership of Regio-ne Lombardia. Since the partnership inclu-des local authorities, companies, universi-ties, research centres, research hospitals and actively involve citizens and patients, the cluster accomplishes with the “quadru-ple helix model”, which is the main EU requi-rement for reference sites.

Reference Sites, indeed, are ecosystems which comprise different players, including regional and/or local authorities, cities, integrated hospitals/care organisations, industry organisations, SMEs and/or start-ups, research and innovation organi-sations, that jointly implement a com-prehensive, innovation-based approach to active and healthy ageing, and can give evidence and concrete illustrations of the impact of such approaches on the ground.

EUSALP

The Cluster TECHforLIFE has been given the role of “expert” by the Lombardy Region and Finlombarda regar-ding the topic “Health and Tourism” within the EU Macro-regional Strategy for the Alpine Region - EUSALP.
