Edgar joined the BSCR program to increase his knowledge of cell biology and experience full-time research as a possible career op-tion. He trained in Dr. Miyamoto’s lab here at CSU-Fullerton and is now a paid intern at Stanford University with Dr. Thomas Rando. Edgar’s internship project focuses on the use of microRNAs to influ-ence stem cell behavior in the musculoskeletal system. Edgar ap-preciates the opportunity to explore research as a career as a BSCR Scholar and now feels he is well positioned for the many opportuni-ties available in the area of stem cell medicine.

Applications due April 16, 2014
Gurpreet learned about the BSCR Program after applying for graduation and felt that the chance to learn about stem cells and conduct full-time research at a PhD granting university was too intriguing to pass up. Af-ter training under Dr. Nikolaidis at CSU-Fullerton, Gurpreet is now a paid intern with Dr. Jill Helms in the Department of Surgery at Stanford Uni-versity. He is investigating the ability of WNT3a to elicit a repair-by-regeneration response following a serious tooth injury. Gurpreet is cur-rently in the process of applying to dental school and believes his expe-rience in the BSCR program will help him to stand out as a candidate.

Applications due April 16, 2014
Sophia wanted to learn how research in the lab translates into bio-medical therapies and work with mouse and human stem cells. She trained with Dr. Nikolaidis here at CSU-Fullerton and is now in-terning at Stanford University in the laboratory of Dr. Michele Calos in the Department of Genetics. Her project involves genetic manip-ulation of stem cells as a potential therapy for various muscular dystrophies. Sophia plans to apply to MD/PhD programs and thinks her hard work and her solid network will lead to strong letters of recommendation.
