Question
Are drinking base or neutral drinks having less effect on our teeth compare to acidic drink?
The purpose of this experiment is to see how different kinds of drinks (acidic, base, and neutral) affect our teeth. We used the chicken bones as our teeth for testing model. Chicken bones are easier to do experiment and it’s made up of same ingredients as teeth. So by that, we conclude it should come out with same results that we could say about teeth. By doing this experiment, we hope to know if drinking base or neutral drinks are better for our teeth compare to acidic.
Introduction
The PH of coca cola is about 2.5 which is an acidic drink.
The PH of milk is about 7.2 which is a base drink.
The PH of tea is about 6.5 which is an acidic drink.
Water is a neutral drink, its ph is 7.
Background Information
Hypothesis
If we use a base or neutral drink to test on our teeth, then it will have less effects compare to acidic drink because the rumors and almost all of the dentists always said that drinking acidic drink destroy our teeth more.
Hypothesis
Scale Timer Bucket Water Chicken bones Milk Tea Coke
Materials
PROCEDURE
1. Prepared a chicken bone as our teeth model2. Measure the mass of the bone3. Put it into the water for 3 hours4. Then, take it out to dry out for 24 hours
5. Measure the bone's mass again.6. Check and make sure the mass before and after are the same. If its the same then we could start our experiment on different drinks.
Procedure
7. Put the bone we are testing on onto the scale to measure its mass.
8. Put the bone into the drink we are testing for 1 hour9. Then, take it out to dry out for 24 hours10. Measure the mass of the bone on the scale again.
Procedure
11. Record the mass before and after. Make observations on the experiment throughout the process12. Repeat step 7 to step 11 for all other drinks.

Trial 3
Drinks/Mass Before After
Water 2.1g 2.1g

Trial 4
Drinks/Mass Before After
Water 2.0g 2.0g
Milk 2.2g 2.2g
Coke 2.1g 1.8g
Tea 1.9g 1.8g
Observations
In this experiment, we saw all bones were dyed in color of the drinks we put in. For coke, the bone dark brown. The bone in milk turn white and in tea, it was a bit yellowish. In the experiment, we saw the bones that were in tea and coke lost masses. Also, we saw part of bone in the drink of coke were been corrode and turn into powder form.

CONCLUSION
In this experiment, we used different drinks to test to see if the drinks would have any effects on our teeth. We decided to test between acidic drinks and base or neutral drinks. People always said acidic drinks harm our teeth more and base drink are better for our health. We are doing this experiment to test our hypothesis and see the results.
Conclusion
In our experiment, we got a result of the bones stay in water and milk kept the same mass for all 4 trials but the bones in coke and tea lost masses. In Tea, each bone lost about 1 to 2 grams after putting in the drink. In coke, each bone lost 3-4 grams after putting in the drinks. At the same time, the bone in coke was discovered been corrode. The bone was been dyed into the color of the drinks we put in.
Conclusion
From the experiment, we know our hypothesis was correct. Base and neutral drinks are having less effects on teeth compare drinks. The more acidic the drink is the more harmful it is to our teeth.
Acidic drinks would erode our teeth with its strong chemical. We should drink more water and milk that could help our teeth health. Both water and milk don’t corrode our teeth and harm it. And it helps us with a beautiful teeth!
