Worldwide Pursuit of Excellence

• As Bovo-Tighe extends the reach of its Foundations of Excellencesm philosophy more deeply into clients and more broadly around the world, we continue to adapt our approach to reflect local work and personal environments.

• The most recent engagement took place in Moscow, a fascinating mix of old habits and new thinking.

Moscow Program Goals

• Create better leaders!

• Give managers workplace-proven strategies, tools and techniques to think, behave and interact more effectively with people.

• Give managers tools that will tap hidden energy reserves in the people with whom they work.

▫ Bosses

▫ Subordinates and team members

▫ Peers

Our working environment seems the

same wherever we go…

But, there are spots to add some local flair!

And some themes do resonate universally.

As always, the people involved make it

unique and energizing!

Perceptions vs. Reality

• The foundational step for our success in developing leaders is to clearly establish that “how” you communicate is as important as “why” you communicate.

• People develop opinions about you, and react to you, based only on observed behavior.

• What they perceive from observing you is “true” in their minds.

Action may speak louder than words, but words speak louder that thoughts!

Internal Motivators:

Outward Behaviors:

HOW we communicate

WHY we communicate

If our outward behavior does not clearly communicate our internal motivations, we are mis-communicating, and even generating unneeded conflict. The Titanic was sunk by what lay below the waterline, not the tip of the iceberg that could be seen!

Participants objectively examined the

true motivators for past decisions.

• How have values driven a recent decision?

• Do those impacted by the decision understand these influences?

• Do they get the chance to “influence those influences?”

…And presented their results publically.

Some great ideas came up.

We had to break down some walls.

“Old Thinking” can be a strong competitor against innovation in old Soviet cultures.

And create doorways for creativity!

Once you create the gateway, though, the energy and contribution released is phenomenal!

Thoughts that encourage us:

• Imagination is more important than knowledge.

~ Albert Einstein

• A leader affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

~ African Proverb

• The way to develop the best that is in a person, is by appreciation and encouragement.

~ Charles Schwab
