Ordinance Amending Chapter 2 of the Chesapeake City Code, Entitled Administration," By Adding Division 26 Thereto, to create an Official Chesapeake City Symbol Committee
The committee shall consist of nine (9) members who are residents of the City of Chesapeake and shall serve on the committee without compensation. The current City Treasurer shall serve as a permanent member of the committee for her tenure in office; thereafter, City Council shall appoint a member to serve for a term of four years. The remaining eight (8) members shall be appointed by the City Council for terms of four years; provided, however, that of those first appointed, two shall be appointed for two years, three shall be appointed for threee years, and three shall be appointed for four year terms.

Membership shall be broadly representative of the community and representative of professionals and members of the general public whose occupations or interests involve or are related to the fields of mental health, intellectural disability (mental retardation), and substance abuse and shall include consumers and family members of consumers and the city sheriff or designee when practical. (2) No more than two elected or appointed local officials of the city shall be members of the board. (3) No person appointed to the Board may be an employee of the board or an employee of board member of an organization which receives funding from any community services board. (4) The name of all candidates for appointment to the board, and all information regarding each candidate which is made available to City Council shall be disclosed and made available to the public prior to any appointment being made.
