I.Scientific Method

A. Problem

1. Find the effects of radioactive iodine on laboratory rats.

B. Research/Observations

1. Findings

Your problem:

To find the best growth medium for effectively allowing mealworms to move through their life cycle

Assignment: Research the life cycle, niche, and nutrition of mealworms!

“Whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t; either way you are right!!!

Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there!!

If you do what your supposed to do and prepare for the events of life, it is amazing how many times you will find yourself in the ‘right place at the right time’!

C.Hypothesis

1. If/then statement

2. Must be research based

3. Must be testable

My hypothesis:

If I select 2 groups of rats and give one group injections of radioactive iodine for 30 days, then the group of rats that get the injections will have an enlarged gall bladder and will show signs of eating less and weight loss.

1. Organized data tables/graphs

F.Keep/change/discard hypothesis

1. Data must support this decision

Scientific Experiment Terminology

1.Variable – anything affecting experiment

2.Manipulated variable – the one thing intentionally changed

3.Control group – does not get m.v.

4.Experimental group – gets m.v.
