Where has the time gone? When I joined the Shrine I never had any intention of being anything more than a noble “having fun with a purpose.” The next thing I knew I was being asked to be on the Divan. Now eight years later, here I am, finished being Potentate for the greatest group of people and philanthropy.
It seems like just yesterday we were gathering at the Scottish Rite for installation.
We met upon the level where all men are equal in the eyes of The Great Architect of the Universe and our fraternal order. We believe in caring for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer from burns and crippling diseases, as our institutional calling. As individuals, we pledge ourselves to integrity, virtue and nobility of character. Our intentions are honorable, our relations trustworthy and our spirits forgiving of each other.
We have had tremendous opportunities to impact and improve the lives of hundreds of children that we serve in Sesostrisland. Together, we have achieved great goodness in 2014 and the future of Sesostris couldn’t look better.
I have heard many great things this year about the nobility of Sesostris. The outcome of a Shrine temple is only as effective as the nobles and ladies of that temple. It is the hard work and dedication of you, the members, that makes us the strong organization that we are. We have great nobles and ladies who work very hard for the Shrine and the kids for which we care. Thank you for being who you are and helping to make a difference in a child’s life.
As we leave, we will be departing on the square. Parting upon the square reminds us to always square our actions with all mankind, treating each other with equal reverence and dignity. After all, no man is accepted as a Mason or Shriner because of his worldly wealth or status; so why should we make that a standard for dealing with others?
As I have always said, you make me proud to be a Shriner.Hasta la Vista – See you later and goodbye.
The election of officers was held December 10. The elected Divan officers advanced with Richard Eggerling moving into the Oriental Guide position. The appointed officers are: 1st Ceremonial Master, Dan Johnson and Lady Becky; 2nd Ceremonial Master, Stan Fraser and Lady Alice; Director General, Todd Tinnean and Lady Gaylene; Marshal, Ron Schroeder and Lady Gayle; Captain of the Guard, Merv Moeller and Lady Sharon; Outer Guard, Jairo Cabieles and Lady Sarah; Chaplain, Robert Pratt and Lady Bonnie. Please make all the Divan feel welcome.
I want to thank Ill. Sir Keith Houfek, Past Potentate, for his leadership, guidance and friendship during 2014. It was a fantastic experience for me and the 2014 Divan. We had a great
year thanks to you and Lady Cindy. You worked so hard and went to so many functions. You are a wonderful example for us to follow. We look forward to seeing you in 2015 and know you will always be there for the Divan and nobles.
My hope for 2015 is that with the Divan and nobles of Sesostris, we can go forward strengthening our clubs and units. Membership will be our #1 priority. I challenge each noble to bring in at least one new member during 2015. Our past leadership has brought us to today, it is our current nobility which will carry us into the future.
I look forward to sharing 2015 with you.Tom

It’s Circus Season!
Everyone Loves The
CIRCUS
Our first circus is Columbus,
nebraskaMarch 3 & 4, 2015
Platte County Agriculture Facility
If you can volunteer at either of these events, please contact the Shrine Office at 402-474-6890.
mark your calendar for the Sesostris Shrine Circus in lincoln
Yes ladies and nobles, we are going to have a circus in 2015! As you are aware our circus is changing this year. We were forced by the closing of the Pershing Auditorium to find a new venue for our annual circus. We have a contract with the Lancaster County Event Center. Details are still being finalized. Just about everything that we have been comfortable with over the years will have to be adjusted, tweaked, changed, etc. to work with the new venue.
We have contracted with Jim Plunket of the James Christy Cole Circus to bring basically the same show we have had in the last few years. Due to the lower ceiling height at the Event Center there are a few acts that we have had that won’t be possible, such as the motorcycle motocross jumpers that we had last year.
The dates for the 2015 circus will be March 11 thru March 15. This is Wednesday thru Sunday as we have been doing, but with one change. We will have one performance on Wednesday evening and three performances on Saturday. Times will be 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The other major change with this venue is bleacher seating as opposed to the individual seating at Pershing. This is causing changes to our ticketing process, premium seating possibilities
and obviously, maximum capacity. We are working on securing work
areas for making sweet treats — both cotton candy and sno cones, and for assembling novelties. There will also be a hospitality/rest area for our volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers, we are going to need a lot of you to come out and help. We will need help in the same areas as we have in the past: making and selling sweet treats, assembling and selling novelties, selling programs, ushering, and of course clowning! In addition several new areas will need volunteers, these include parking attendants, security and selling tickets. There will be free parking in designated lots but we will have to provide attendants to direct traffic to the proper parking locations. We are coordinating with the Event Center for pre-event ticket sales but we will have to handle the same-day walk up tickets sales that were handled by Pershing and Ticket Master staff in the past.
We greatly appreciate all of our volunteers and know that we cannot have a successful circus fundraiser without your help. Especially in this year of transition, we need your help and ask for any suggestions and advice as unforeseen problems arise while we prepare for and present our 2015 Shrine Circus.Keith Plummer – Cheif Rabban 2015 Doug Dessel –Circus Director Bob Nootz – Office Manager

HOSPITALHAPPENINgSA report from your Twin Cities BOG representativeHappy New Year! I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. By the time you are reading this I will have started my third
year as your Board of Governors representative. It has been a true labor of love. Seeing first-hand the great works our hospital does for our children only strengthens my dedication to our fraternity and our philanthropy. It is my sincere hope that you have enjoyed my bi-monthly articles about what is happening with YOUR hospital. If there is something you would like me to write about, please reach out to me. Since my last message there have been no real significant changes in the proposed partnership with the Mayo clinic. Talks are ongoing and I will share what I learn to keep you as informed as possible.
Keeping with the spirit of the season, I thought it would be nice to share with you a relatively new festive event at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Twin Cities. Five years ago the hospital wanted to add a little more Christmas cheer at the hospital, so, “Breakfast with Santa” was born. Thirty
five people attend that year. This year over 500 people enjoyed the day! Of course Mr. and Mrs. Claus were there to pass out gifts. They also brought some winter wonderland friends with them. There were penguins “Ruby and Dee” to pet and reindeer “Donner and Blitzen” were there for sleigh rides. Volunteers, mostly staff and their families, helped serve breakfast and make sure everything ran smoothly.
The orthopedic screening clinic sponsored by Dr. Samani helped 30 children enter into the Shriners Hospitals for Children system this year. This clinic has been a huge success and it has become the model for other Shrine temples to emulate. Children from Sesostris, Tehama, and the Tangier areas have all benefited from his clinic. Focusing on Sesostris, it appears that we will not meet our patient recruitment goal for SHC-TC this year. Our goal was to increase the number of qualified application submitted by 10 percent over 2013. As of December 10, we had 27 qualified applications to SHC-TC. If we do not add any more applications before the year’s end we will be 11 short of our goal and seven fewer that last year. The good news is that we have welcomed 27 new children to our Shrine family. Let’s make 2015 a record year for Sesostris!
Our patient recruitment for the year is below where it needs to be at this time. As of December 10th we have just 27 applications. Doing the math, we need 11 more qualified applications submitted by December 31st to reach our goal. Always be on the lookout for children we can help.
Fraternally Yours,Ill. Sir Drew Borske

90Th EaST-WEST ShRinE GamE
Saturday, January 17, 2015 • 4:00 p.m.Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
The East-West Shrine Game is a showcase for up-and-coming NFL talent as national media and scouts from every professional team spend the week in St. Petersburg to review the players. More than 100 players from the 89th East-West Shrine Game signed with NFL teams. Any given season there are about 265 East-West alumni on NFL rosters. More than 70 alumni have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, having showcased their talents on the East-West gridiron before launching their professional careers.
“This is the 90th East-West Shrine Game, making it the longest running college all-star game in the country,” said Harold Richardson, executive director of the game. “This is our fourth year in Tampa Bay and community support for the game has grown here each year. This is a great family event that supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®.”
More than just a game, since 1925, the East-West Shrine Game has helped raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children, a health care system with 22 locations dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

What should I photograph? (Note: These are just suggestions. Be creative and have fun with this!)
• Shriners laughing and having fun• Scenes depicting brotherhood/friendship • Shriners in interesting costumes• Shriners driving fun vehicles
• Temple, club or unit gatherings• Shriners in the community• Fezzes, memorabilia, vehicles or other Shriner accessories
What are the qualities of a winning image?
How will the winners be chosen?
Technical quality, clarity and composition are all important, but what will set a photo apart from the rest is the ability to capture that “picture perfect” moment that expresses the true spirit of the Shriners.
A panel of impartial judges will choose ten winning photos. Winners will receive a plaque, pin and an Amazon.com gift card. Winning photos will be published in the 2015 Annual Report and in an issue of Shriner Magazine: Pride and Tradition. They will also be shown during the Public Relations report at the 2015 Imperial Session in Houston.
Best of luck! We can’t wait to see how you have captured the essence of what it means to be a Shriner.

The Sesostris Shrine Corvette Unit has finished up the 2014 year with a flury of activity and a new member. We welcomed Dick Stephenson to the unit at our last meeting of the year on November 5, 2014. He drives a shiny new 2014 silver coupe Corvette Stingray. He also owns a mid 60’s Corvette, but told us it is too fast for parade duty next spring. Dick was also inducted into the Shrine officially on Saturday November 8 at the Fall Ceremonial and is pictured here with our Captain Al Klaasmeyer after the Fezzing ceremony. We welcolme Dick and his lady Vicki to our unit and look forward to getting to know them better in 2015.
We held our election of officers since we last wrote. Our leadership for 2015 will be as follows:
Captain Al Klaasmeyer, Lieutenant Harry Lipert, Treasurer Jerry Wilson and Secretary Bill Cummins. We will end 2014 year with a membership of 25 nobles. Our unit continues to grow and we were happy to contribute generously to Sesostris this year with financial support going to the Golf Tournament, the Sportsman’s Giveaway, the Transportation Fund and the General Fund. We had a fun time raising money through the Sportsman’s Giveaway, the Bill Chrastil entertainment evening, and judging a car
show in Malcom as well as selling onions and calendars and working several of the fantastic Shrine Circus shows.
A huge thank you goes out to all the Corvette nobles and their ladies for their financial sacrifices in attending parades, competing in the Motor Competition at CSSA, payment of dues to Sesostris, Mason Blue Lodges, Corvette unit and many other fundraisers of Sesostris. Also, we wish to publicly thank Greenfield’s Cafe and Kevin Knudson for supporting Sesostris through donating 10 percent of sales for all of our monthly evening meal gatherings at their fine restaurant. Finally thanks to the 2014 officers and most of all to Illustrious Sir Keith Houfek for his huge sacrifice of time and financial support of Sesostris.
Happy New Year and due remember to Check Your Lug Nuts
LETTER FROM A gRATEFUL PARENTDecember 11, 2014Dear Shriners,
First and foremost, Thank You! Twenty-five years ago my son Cody, who is now 27,
contracted spinal meningitis. As a result of he needed to have bilateral amputation of his feet. We were scheduled to have surgery at Duke University Medical Center. But, two days before we were to go a miracle happened.
Although we were living in North Carolina, my sister in Iowa called. She told me a gentleman had been in her office and was asking how her nephew was doing. When she told him of the planned surgery, he asked her to call and let me know that she would be calling back within the hour with the name and phone number of a local Shriner that I should contact.
I had heard of Shriners but really didn’t know what they did. She called me back with the information and the rest is history. Within 24 hours Cody was officially sponsored and we were on
our way to the Greenville, S.C. unit. Cody was cared for there until we moved back to Iowa and we were then transferred to the St. Louis unit.
I don’t know what we would have ever done without Shriners. Words cannot express our gratitude. Cody is now 27. He is a college graduate, happily married and works for Farmers Mutual Insurance in Kansas City. When people meet him for the first time they often remark that they would never know he was a bilateral amputee because he moves so naturally.
Now, it is my turn to do something for another child. This year I am making a donation in honor of Cody and two of my dear friends. I hope that it will help someone else receive the excellent care that Cody did.
Thank you for all that you do!Sincerely, Jan Freye

Cruis’n Classicsby Jeff EggerlingSecretary
As we finish out the year and enjoy all the holidays with family and friends, a big thanks to the members and ladies who helped with all of our activities throughout the year. Due to your hard work, the Cruis’n Classics were able to donate $34,000 back to the Shrine in 2014. Ill. Sir Keith awarded Unit of the Year to the Cruis’n Classics.
The Cruis’n Classics elected the following officers for
2015: Roger Wells, Captain; Jim Pierce, Lieutenant; Jeff Eggerling, Secretary; and James Eggerling, Treasurer.
Thanks to captain Paul Campbell and lady Barb, as well as the Divan Rep Assistant Rabban Keith Plummer and lady Arlis for all your leadership and work with the unit for the past year. Our annual holiday party will be held on January 10. Cruis’n Classics members mark your calendars and plan to attend.
One of our major sources of fundraising for the Shrine is collecting aluminum cans and other metals. If you know of any source that can help us, please inform a Cruis’n Classic member. Also, thanks to all the Shrine members that saved aluminum cans and metals for us. Until next time, happy cruis’n.
Sesostris Shrine Clownsby Charles “Chuckles” Godwin Secretary“It is not so bad to start a New Year right, the main trouble comes in steering.” And a few clowns have
done all the steering. Clowns, make a resolution to participate in more activities and not just the circus.
In 2014 the clowns participated in numerous activities showing their talents through smiles, laughter, performing skits and even making balloon characters for our kids. Most of the children interacted with the clowns; however, others took a bit more persuasion. However, dedicated clowns continued their quest to bring a bit of joy and happiness to each child.
The annual Clown Christmas Party was held at the Scottish Rite building on December 5. Thanks to Cosmo for making the arrangements. Door prizes were given to anyone who wanted a clown. Cosmo had secured all of the clown items from “Sunhine’s” estate and anyone wanting a picture, ceramic, etc., had their choice to take home.
A few clowns participated in the Shrine Patients’ Christmas Party and the Sesostris Shrine Christmas event with two clowns going the extra mile. Scraps and Toots went to Beatrice to share Christmas joy with the residents at Mosaic on Sunday, September 7.
Congratulations to the new officers for the year 2015:Director, T. John “Cosmo” HinkelAssistant Director, Andrew “Scraps” BorskeSecretary, Charles “Chuckles” GodwinTreasurer, Howard “Toots” Feldman“The world sees the mask that we wear, and not what we
really are; therefore, when you talk, you only say something you already know, but when you listen you learn what someone else knows.”
