The BI Scorecard provides a consistent, side-by-side comparison of products from leading BI vendors. The information is copyrighted and restricted for use to subscribers. To use this spreadsheet: 1. Understand the criteria by reviewing the related documents that explain the benefits and meaning of each of the criteria. 2. Business users and IT should work together to prioritize the criteria. Assign a weighting or importance in column A. For features that you do not need, assign a 0. For criteria that are considered show-stoppers or essential, assign an importance of 3 or higher. 3. As you investigate each vendor's functionality, you may want to change the scores that BIScorecard has assigned to each vendor/feature. Review the individual vendor evaluations and comments here to understand these scores. If you want to change a score, change the value in the color coded columns so that the calculated weighted rating is preserved. You also can insert new columns for additional vendors or products not covered by BIScorecard. 4.Review the weighted scores for each functional area to create a short-list of vendors/products that meet your needs. 5.Evaluate these scores against strategic considerations. Additional Notes: - As of Q1 2008, blanks are accounted for in the subtotals so that vendors are not penalized for incomplete information. - Summary totals only include essential and important features, not features ranked with a 1. - In calculating % fulfillment of requirements, possible requirements are factored by 2 (so 2 means it adequately fulfills the capability). If a vendor scores a 3 on capabilities, the % fulfillment will be greater than 100%. - As of Q1 2009, we are sharing preliminary scores for new or soon-to-be-released versions for which hands on testing is not fully completed. Subtotal formulas for these versions are only added when hands-on testing is completed.

The BI Scorecard provides a consistent, side-by-side comparison of products from leading BI vendors. The information is copyrighted and restricted for use to subscribers.

To use this spreadsheet:

Additional Notes:- As of Q1 2008, blanks are accounted for in the subtotals so that vendors are not penalized for incomplete information.- Summary totals only include essential and important features, not features ranked with a 1.- In calculating % fulfillment of requirements, possible requirements are factored by 2 (so 2 means it adequately fulfills the capability).

3 Integration with BI platform for data

Desktop or web authoring environment

Integration within existing BI environment

If tool is to be deployed along with enterprise BI, how does it integrate with platform

Integration with BI platform for security

If the tool is integrated with the BI platform, consider data sources, meta data, security re-use.

Can existing cubes, reports, and data sources be accessed easily or must data be replicated into a separate analytic environment

24 Total Architecture and Administration

For departmental, stand-alone deployment, consider rapid deployment and ability to maintain separate from enterprise BI platform

Can user IDs and passwords be used from Windows AD, LDAP, or BI platform

If separate security, degree of granular security

Ability to load data from multiple data sources into the cube or in-memory environment

Understanding of physical schemas in source systems

64-bit operating systems allow for greater data and user scalability. The product should be compiled for native 64-bit

In-memory products load the data into memory for speed of thought analysis. Some products will only load a subset of data into memory and leverage the OLAP server and other data sources to avoid replicated data and latency issues

Are platforms and OS beyond Windows supported

The OLAP drill uses enhanced Excel pivot capabilities

Single star schema only. With Composite Information Maps this may work better in 9.2 but it's a workaround

Extensive function library in expressions and could do such calculations by nesting IF statements but not as straightforward as other OLAP tools or MDX.

The expressions are processed on the fly so correctly recalculated
