• Bloom had faith in the power of the environment to influence the performance of individuals. He believed that the first four years of a child’s life were critical to promote cognitive development. Because of his convictions, he was crucial in establishing the Head Start program in the United States.

• Cognitive Domain involves knowledge and the development of intellectual skills. (ex: recognition of specific facts)

• Affective Domain includes the manner in which we deal with things emotionally (ex: feelings, appreciations, etc.)

• Pscyhomotor Domain involves physical movement, coordination, and use of the motor skills (ex: perception & response)

Bloom’s Taxonomy Cont.

• In order to get to the highest level of the cognitive taxonomy, which is evaluation, meaning the ability to evaluate, the student would need to have the necessary knowledge in all the other levels below Evaluation.

• I believe Bloom’s theory is of importance, because working at Head Start, I see every day how crucial it is that any child from any background can be taught properly with effective teaching.
