Offshore Staffing
What is Outsourcing & Offshoring?
Outsourcing is the contracting out of any part of the business process.
•A model that is successfully used by millions of businesses world wide.
•Estimated that 20% of Australian businesses already use offshore staff in one form or another.
Offshoring is the term used when businesses outsource to staff outside of their own country. •Outsourcing and Offshoring is a huge and growing business and has become particularly attractive to small to medium sized enterprises (SME)
Outsourcing means just what it says -- going "out" to find the "source" of what you need.
What do you think of when you hear the “Offshoring or Outsourcing?”
• Images of call centres where the people don’t speak English?
• Jobs being taken away from domestic employees?
• Labour force with no rights?
Small – Medium business is following the lead of its bigger counterparts
by off-shoring people and outsourcing work overseas
Really doesn’t matter if your team are in the office next door or 5000km away – technology fixes all that.
In fact because you slightly change the way you manage – written instructions – daily report – more format communication – RESULTS are often better.

Do Companies Benefit?• Most companies can benefit from Offshoring
• A lot don’t as they feel uncomfortable with using an overseas employees
• A lot can’t because they don’t put the effort into overseas employees
• A lot just won’t because they are able to change the way they think
What I can say is that;• It happens everyday
• It is a hugely successful industry
• It achieves results and outcomes• Your competitors probably do it
It is very rewarding
Loyalty and Commitment is BACK
The people are awesome
• What are the risks? To TRY or FAIL
Benefits of Offshoring
Cost Savings•Offshore companies can carry out work for considerably less than in Australia. •This is due to lower operational cost base in labour, social costs and other overhead costs.•Typically, Offshoring should save companies in the region of at least 50-60%. Eg. With Vorian Agency having our Accounts Receivables done offshore it saves us on average $35,000, money we can re-invest in the business.
Quality of service. •By having more resources and better qualified personnel.
Productivity improvements. •Able to focus on critical functions of the business. You normally find that senior managers and business owners spend 80% of their time in management of day-to-day issues and only 20% on strategy. •Giving management time to carry out other functions can enable an organisation to become more profitable and find other ways of generating income.
Benefits of Offshoring
Access to a wider array of skills. •Offshoring enables an organisation to access different skills sets and expertise that their company would not normally have access to. Many BPO companies have skills and intellectual assets that take many, many years to generate.
Allocation of resources. Organisations that use BPO can effectively reallocate personnel into areas that will have a positive impact upon other projects, such as expansion or opening offices in new territories.
Operational expertise. BPO companies are able to provide the relevant expertise that most companies don’t have access to or would be difficult and expensive to develop in-house.
The Philippines
There are number of compelling reasons for Western Australian business to consider the Philippines as the base for their Offshore Staff.
Same Time-zone•WA and Manila share the same time-zone.•This brings distinct advantages when compared with other offshoring destinations such as India.•It also enables response to unscheduled events and pressures to be more effectively controlled because you and your staff member are available at the same real-time as your customer.
Compatible Culture
•The Philippines share a similar culture to Australia and the US.
•There have been many western influences on The Philippines as they have developed. •It is predominately a Christian country with Roman Catholicism being the dominant religion.
The PhilippinesCompatible Language•English is considered “Language of Choice” for many Filipinos.•It is a bilingual society with English being the language of education in all colleges and universities. All business in The Philippines is transacted in English. Their laws are written in English and their Parliament and all judicial processes are conducted in English. It therefore forms the basis of their commercial and professional lives.•Importantly, Filipinos speak English with an easy to understand and pleasing accent and this is a significant benefit for Australian employers.
Highly Educated and Skilled Staff
•Approximately 3 million students graduate from The Philippines’ world-class higher education system and enter the job market each year. Their professional certification standards are vigorously tested and they rank equally with other western education systems.
•It is possible to find graduates with any specialisation in The Philippines.
•Many of the world’s leading high-tech companies have made a huge investment in their operations in The Philippines, and as a direct result many of the staff available to you may have gained their experience from companies such as IBM, Samsung and Dell.

General
• The Philippines does have strict labour laws.
• All staff start with 6 months probation, during that time you can terminate them as you wish
• After 6 months they are “permanent” employees and you must give warnings, verbal and written, and show reason for termination. (Much like our Employee Relation laws in Australia)
• You can choose the shifts they work. They work 9 hour days. • Staff can either work in line with Australian Public Holidays or Philippine
Public Holidays• After 6 months probation staff are entitled to 7 working days sick leave per
annum
• If a staff member is absent, they will generally offset their absences by either working on a Saturday or additional hours
• Staff are willing to perform overtime • Philippines does have Typhoon season that occasionally causes downtime due
to flooding.
