Internal Uses of Benchmark I-O Accounts
Benchmark Input-Output (I-O) Accounts
National Income and Product Accounts
-- Sets the level of PCE and PFI in the benchmark year by establishing the split of gross output between final purchases and intermediate inputs. -- Distributes final purchases across major GDP components.
Fixed Assets Accounts
-- Adjusts data from capital flow table, which is derived from the benchmark I-O accounts, mainly from a use-basis to an ownership-basis -- Benchmarks investment by type and industry based on the adjusted capital flow table -- Derives the net stocks of fixed assets from the resulting investment estimates

Internal Uses of Benchmark I-O Accounts, cont.
Benchmark Input-Output (I-O) Accounts
Annual Industry Accounts
-- Adjusts benchmark I-O data to maintain consistency with the NIPAs - Helps determine how major final demand categories are distributed across commodities -- Helps determine how intermediate inputs are distributed across commodities
Regional Input-Output Modeling System (RIMS II)
--Uses producer portion of benchmark I-O to create region-specific production patterns as input to RIMS II - Uses value added and PCE, adjusted for regional earnings and consumption, to estimate the household row and column for RIMS II

Methodological Improvement
BEA Integration Initiative requires reconciliation of Industry Value Added estimates in Benchmark Input-Output and GDP-by-Industry accounts
Benchmark estimates are expenditure-based
GDP-by-Industry estimates are income-based
