Ralston Avenue Belrose NSW 2085 Phone: 9451 6203 www.belrose-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Email: [email protected]NEWSLETTER DATE: 1 March, 2018 TERM 1, WEEK 5 Belrose Public School Principal’s Message Belrose OSHC Centre Phone: 0430 247 493 Dates AT BELROSE PS We continue to focus on several key areas within this great school that every child is known and cared for so that they connect to learning, thrive and suc- ceed. We continue to have a very engaging community that has a strong sense of ownership. The P&C Executive has met this week following my input on where the school requires further funding. My role continues to be a very important role with not just being a business and people manager but to be an instructional leader to make this great school even greater. As explained to the parents on P/T nights, we are making our focus on teaching integrated units of work so that the students can apply their knowledge, skills and capabilities across a wide range of curriculum areas to acquire a deep mastery of Literacy and Numeracy, a deeper understanding of science, geography/history skills and knowledge. The skills of collaboration, communication and critical thinking are best developed in the context of deep knowledge. How do we continue to engage our students? To be implemented by stage 3 as a part of their inte- grated unit, we have bought 4 hummingbird class kits and 16 steam kits, val- ued at $10,000. These hummingbird kits will allow students to create and pro- gram robots built from electronic components and craft materials. Students in stage 3 as part of their literacy unit, ‘Mechanica’ by Lance Balkin will be work- ing on a number of projects over the semester to use their creative and critical thinking skills whilst working in small groups. Rubrics of expected outcomes will give students the success criteria and ownership of their learning. COMMUNITY SPIRIT I was a very proud Principal on Monday morning as I attended Arranounbai with the Leadership team and their parents. Although we did not expect to walk away with resources for Belrose we have graciously accepted them. These resources will be available at lunch time for K-6 students in the library.
