(In English) In Piplantri, a village in the Indian region of Rajasthan, the whole community celebrates the birth of every baby girl by planting 111 trees, in order to secure the future of the community and draw attention to the problem of female infanticide. Among the forestry news which made the headlines at the end of October, FAO, together with the EU and other global and regional partners, launched a major project against desertification which builds upon the Great Green Wall Initiative in Africa and will also benefit the Caribbean and Pacific areas. Entre las noticias forestales que marcaron la actualidad de este final de octubre, la FAO, junto con la UE y otras organizaciones mundiales y regionales, puso en marcha un proyecto de gran envergadura contra la desertificación que se basa en la Iniciativa de la Gran Muralla Verde en África y también quiere beneficiar a las zonas áridas del Caribe y del Pacífico. (En inglés, español y francés) Con motivo del Día Mundial de la Alimentación, dos acuerdos han sido firmados por la FAO y el Gobierno de Marruecos. Uno de los acuerdos tiene por objeto evaluar y combatir los efectos del cambio climático en la agricultura y los bosques a través de una herramienta llamada "MOSAICC" (Modelling System for Agricultural Impacts of Climate Change). (En inglés y francés) Una nueva guía sobre el manejo colaborativo adaptativo, lanzada el 09 de octubre 2014 en el Congreso de la Unión Internacional de Organizaciones de Investigación Forestal (IUFRO) en Salt Lake City por el Centro para la Investigación Forestal Internacional (CIFOR), tiene como objetivo integrar el género en la toma de decisiones en las comunidades locales. (En inglés) En Piplantri, una aldea en la región india de Rajastán, toda la comunidad celebra el nacimiento de cada niña mediante la plantación de 111 árboles, para asegurar el futuro de la comunidad y llamar la atención sobre el problema del infanticidio femenino. Parmi les titres qui ont marqué l’actualité forestière de cette fin d'octobre, la FAO, en collaboration avec l'Union européenne et d'autres partenaires internationaux et régionaux, a lancé un projet de grande envergure contre la désertification, qui mise sur l'Initiative de la Grande Muraille Verte en Afrique et qui bénéficiera également les pays des Caraïbes et du Pacifique. L’UE et la FAO intensifient la lutte contre la désertification en Afrique, aux Caraïbes et dans le Pacifique FAO Médias 22/10/14 L'Union européenne et la FAO viennent de lancer en collaboration avec le groupe des pays Afrique-Caraïbes-Pacifique (ACP) un programme d'un montant de 41 millions d'euros, étalé sur quatre ans et demi, en faveur de la gestion durable des terres et la réhabilitation des sols arides et dégradés en Afrique, aux Caraïbes et dans le Pacifique.

New FAO publications

Scenario development to strengthen national forest policies and programmes: A review of future-oriented tools and approaches that support policy-making Forest policies require a broad perspective on land use and natural resource management, and necessitate a focus on the value of forests to society. Forest policy documents need to be updated on a regular basis and stakeholder involvement plays an important role in this process, often through workshops and interviews. This report provides a brief overview of some selected methods and tools available for stakeholder involvement and future-oriented policy-making.
