The stunning landscapes of the Northern Rivers combined with the friendliness of its residents makes the region irresistible to visitors.

Whether you want the adventure of exploring many National Parks including the World Heritage listed Mt Warning - the highest mountain in Northern NSW - or sipping fi ne local coffee in one of the numerous cafes in picturesque villages, there really is something for everyone.

Throughout the region, scenic country roads wind around green farm fi elds, soft hills and a stretching coastline with bays and rock pools.

Minyon Falls is only one of many fantastic natural features in the region.

Don’t miss the unique feel of the coastal village Lennox Head, home to one of the world’s great surf breaks at the southern end of the Seven Mile Beach: The Point, which is now an Australian Surfi ng Reserve.

Lennox Head offers a fantastic caravan and camping park at Lake Ainsworth, a natural tea tree lake which is perfect for canoeing and catamarans. Lennox also offers superb dining with its award winning eateries and you might even see a few whales and calves off the Pat Moreton Lookout.

The lush sub-tropical rainforests around Mullumbimby are just part of the attraction to this eclectic town, known for its artistic residents.

Great cafes and shops are part of the town’s charm.

Ballina has become one of the region’s most popular destinations for both young and old, with great fi shing, beaches, restaurants, cafes and shopping.

In the Northern Rivers a myriad of local markets await your exploration as well as regular events such as the annual Billycart Derby in Bangalow and the Lantern Parade in Lismore.

Fast becoming one of the region’s most popular holiday destinations, the coastal town of Evans Head is well-known for its great fi shing, unspoilt beaches and the estuary is perfect for canoeing and boating.

The Evans River estuary provides safe shallow, sandy beaches for children to swim and pleasant shady picnic spots to enjoy the local specialty of fi sh and chips by the river.

For serious nature lovers there is bird watching and bushwalking in the nearby Bundjalung and Broadwater National Parks. The walks take in

littoral rainforest, heath land vegetation and unspoilt beaches.

The Goanna Headland lookout is a great place to watch the annual migration of humpback whales and is a mythical site of great importance to the Bundjalung people, who have occupied the area for thousands of years.

Other attractions include galleries, boating, tennis, golf and bowls.

Not far away is the lovely town of Woodburn - a rich agricultural area with tourists wanting to be away from the actual coast fi nding it a great base for their tours of the region.

Just south of Woodburn lies two “must see” tourist attractions: The New Italy Museum, which shows the infl uence of the Italian community on the region and explores that history, and the Gurriglia Aboriginal Art & Craft Centre, which details the region’s rich Indigenous history.

If you like your holidays a little bit country then Casino is for you. Casino is known as the Beef Capital of Australia, celebrated each May during Beef Week. There is also Primex - agricultural fi eld days covering almost every aspect of primary industry in Australia. Casino lies on the Richmond River, a popular spot for visitors due to its rapids, scenery and weirs, making it a fi shing and water sport venue.

Other places to visit include the folk museum, the Norco Factory and Tomki Station Boiling Pot, once used for boiling down tallow.

Just outside the city of Lismore is the beautiful village of Eltham. A day

trip or weekend in Eltham will relax and refresh you.

Far from the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist spots so popular

throughout Northern NSW, Eltham is a small and quaint little village

where life tends to revolve around the family friendly pub, where there

is always entertainment and great food, and a chance to mix with

some of the friendliest locals you’re likely to meet.

Next door to the pub is the gift shop and art gallery.

The tennis courts at Eltham are also very popular and everyone is welcome to join in with a friendly game.

Eltham Valley Pantry, a working pecan and coffee farm which welcomes visitors, is another popular destination with tours and of course wonderful meals on offer.

There is also a great BBQ and picnic area which is the perfect place to stop for lunch.

Lismore is one of the Northern River’s best kept secrets. Often

thought of as just a functional city, Lismore has become a fantastic

destination for anyone looking for a diverse holiday.

Just thirty minutes from the beach, Lismore is surrounded by beautiful

villages.

Dotted throughout the rolling green hills of the Rainbow Region are

tiny, postcard-perfect villages just waiting to be discovered.

A day trip out of Lismore through the hills is delightful. Each village

has its own character, with antique and curio shops, galleries, tea houses and cafes.

Lismore itself has a great range of activities and attractions for any age. The Richmond River Historical Society’s Museum is just one of the many places to visit, with a huge range of galleries to choose from.

There are so many things for families to see and do in the Lismore region, a variety of attractions and activities will entertain the whole family. There is ten-pin bowling, go-kart racing, an absolutely sublime golf course, a well stocked library and a modern cinema centre.

The roller skating rink and putt-putt golf complex in North Lismore offers hours of healthy family entertainment. Play Quest a purpose built indoor soft playground offers a variety of activities and fun in a

relaxed and safe environment. The facility includes a coffee shop and internet where adults can rest while the kids play.

With the largest retail shopping precinct in the Northern Rivers, Lismore is a shoppers’ paradise.

The centre of town has everything from chic boutique fashion and designer homewares to organic produce and rare books.

There are quirky speciality stores, sidewalk cafés and arcades full of surprises.

Lismore’s diversity is refl ected in a dazzling array of shopping choices. The wide streets of the shopping precinct are lined with beautiful heritage buildings and the Wilsons River meandering through the central business district enhances the relaxed country atmosphere.

Tenterfi eld is surrounded by the mountains of the Bald Rock

National Park, a popular place for sightseeing, bushwalking and

climbing Bald Rock itself, the largest granite rock in Australia.

Vineyards are the latest industry to come to Tenterfi eld, with cellar door tastings, vineyard tours and restaurants to explore.

In April every year, timed to coincide with the autumn backdrop, Tenterfi eld hosts ‘Oracles of the Bush,’ a four day celebration of Australian bush culture through verse, music and theatre.

There are great motels like the Henry Parkes Best Western to rest in and you can try some local hospitality at the local Tenterfi eld Bowling Club and Motor Inn.

A visit to Tenterfi eld will enrich the visitor’s sense of history and appreciation of its natural bush surrounds.

If Mother Nature was to create a Pandora’s box of beautiful

treasures it would look exactly like the southern end of the

Northern Rivers region.

Ancient rainforests, buoyant rural communities and teeming

marine parks set on vast winding rivers. The largest of these

rivers – the Clarence River – is a living link between the rugged

highlands and the golden beaches of the Pacifi c Ocean.

Over 400kms from source to sea, the Clarence is one of

Australia’s largest waterways. Spend a day on the Clarence and

you may never want to leave. The Clarence Valley offers visitors

so much to do – art galleries, outdoor adventures, golf, water

sports, scenic drives and national parks. If time with Mother

Nature is what you need, then make time for the Clarence

Valley.

If you’re feeling in need of a coffee whilst in the Maclean region,

take a short detour from the Pacifi c Highway to Woombah and

you can taste coffee grown on the world’s southern-most coffee

plantation, Wombah Coffee. Established in 1982, Wombah Coffee

led to the growth of the coffee industry on the north coast.

The pretty village of Woombah includes caravan parks in

bushland and river settings and the Clarence River is popular

for fi shing holidays. The area includes a number of artist’s studio

galleries.
