    SECTION E: ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Look carefully at the information below to help you complete the task.

We use cars far too much. Cars create pollution every time we use them. Did youknow that in central London 40 thousand cars every hour use the roads! That's a lotof cars.

We are all throwing away far too much rubbish. Most of it ends up being buried or

piled up in big heaps. It doesn't look nice and it isn't good for the planet. Did youknow that the pile of rubbish at New York's Fresh Kills rubbish dump was so big itcould be seen from outer space!

The way we treat the world around us can have huge effects on animals and wildlife.Everything from smoke from factory chimneys to the things we throw away can be adanger to animals and birds. Did you know every year around 2 million sea birds dieafter eating or being tangled up in thrown away plastic.

We use the 3Rs to help keep the world a nice place to live in. We call it being EcoFriendly. If more people were eco friendly and used the 3Rs the world would be in

    better shape!

The good news is EVERYONE can help - including you!!

This means making less rubbish and not using as muchenergy.

This means we have to find other uses for thingsinstead of throwing them away.

This means turning the rubbish into something elserather than just throwing it away

    18. Using this information plus your own ideas and knowledge answer the followingquestions on the attached lined paper:

Describe in your own words some of the ways that the environment isbeing damaged

Explain why the environment is being damaged

In your day-to-day life do you think that you damage or help look after theenvironment? Explain your answer

What do you think the future holds for our planet? (9)
