ST BART’S FILM MAKERS ARE THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE On Tuesday 7 July, three teams of
film-makers from the St Bart’s
Cineclub were invited to the annual
Silver Star awards event at
London’s prestigious BFI Southbank venue.
Zombie shocker ‘Apocalyptic’ was shortlisted
for best film and best homage, while invasion
thriller ‘The Last’, was a nomination for the
secondary Jury Prize. The highlight of the
ceremony, however, was when assassin battler
‘Hitman’ won the People’s Vote award, a
well-deserved recognition of the work put into
it by its cast and creative team: Hasan
Sheperia, Matt King, Ben Stillman and Oliver
Gyorffy.
‘Apocalyptic’ was made by Hannah Money,
David Brind, Sasha Howgate, Corin Dockley,
Tom Lamden and Kyle Smith. ‘The Last’ was
a third production by Marc Jenner, Lewis
Beechey, Stephen Chooi and Joseph
Hennessey, whose Lantern Parade
documentary can currently be seen on the
Corn Exchange website. Harry Murphy and
James Owens joined the crew for this film.
The event was something of a day out for
West Berkshire schools, with Trinity and
St Gabriel’s winning prizes, and Brightwalton
also shortlisted. This is due in no small part to
the invaluable support from the Corn
Exchange’s Learning and Participation
manager, Sarah Gregson.
Cineclub runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
after school in C013. It is open to students in
all year groups, and free to join. We intend to
win more prizes next year!

SECOND HAND UNIFORM The increasingly popular PA
second-hand uniform shop has
been doing good business recently,
raising nearly £1000 in the last
month through sales at the Year 6
House welcome evenings, the fete, and the
usual Friday afternoons. All the money goes
directly into the PA fund to be spent on the
school.
The trouble is that with all those sales our
stocks are running low! Please help refill the
shelves by donating any unwanted uniform
and PE kit so that we can continue to recycle
and reuse, while raising useful money for the
school. Clothes in any reasonable condition
are very welcome. Please leave them in a
clearly marked bag at the school reception
desk.
The shop is open every Friday in term time
from 3.00pm to 3.45pm, just inside the
community entrance.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS The school has received news that
former student, Will Dace, has been awarded a
First in his Medicine Degree at Oxford. Many
congratulations to Will.
