COLE RAISES MONEY FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY
Year 8 student Cole Bowers (8D3) has recently raised £535 for the Wallace and Gromit Children’s Charity by giving a cello
concert at his local pub. This was his latest endeavour for a cause he has supported since he was 8 years old, raising over £2500 in total!
The charity help children in UK hospitals and hospices funding items such as sensory equipment and beds for parents to stay in.
Around 50 people attended the recent concert. In his rendition of “Eleanor Rigby” Cole was supported by his fellow members of Berkshire Maestros quartet, Quattro Strings, St Bart’s Students; Elliot Crouch (violin), Emma Leeson (violin), Hannah Pollard (viola).
No stranger to the spotlight, Cole often participates in concerts, In May, he played Bohemian Rhapsody at the Corn Exchange and last week, he played some wartime tunes at a WW2 poetry reading evening at Greenham Control Tower. Well done Cole!
YEAR 11 GEOGRAPHY FIELD VISIT TO RUSHALL FARM On Thursday 26 and Friday 27 September, we took our Year 11 Geography students to Rushall Farm, near Bradfield. The aim of the visit was for students to collect river data to help them prepare for the Paper 3 Skills exam next summer.

After putting on our waders and listening to a briefing from the Rushall Farm staff, we all set off in groups on a tractor and trailer to different sites along the River Pang. We visited three sites in total and at each site students had to measure the depth, width, wetted perimeter, bedload shape and size, river discharge and gradient. The data from each site was then used to identify how the river changes along its course.
Despite the rain showers the visits were a success and the students worked efficiently to obtain all the relevant data they needed. Since the visits students have been writing up their findings. They will then apply this knowledge to exam style questions to prepare them for the exam next summer.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT We would like to emphasise the importance of abiding by parking restrictions and speed limits in and around the school site. There has recently been a road traffic accident where one of our students was knocked over by a car as they crossed the road. Due to cars waiting on yellow lines the student could not clearly see to cross the road and could not be seen by oncoming traffic until they were halfway across the road. This has been reported to the police and to the Council’s Traffic and Road Safety team.
Please do not wait on yellow lines, they are there to ensure the safety of pedestrians and apply equally to everyone. Please drive with extreme care when dropping off and picking up, with a large number of students entering and leaving the site it is very important that you observe a low speed, the speed limit on site is 5 mph. Please do not block junctions, drive ways or park in private parking spaces.
Thank you for your co-operation.
