From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

Baptism of the Lord: “John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming…he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit... ’” (Luke 3:16). The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need to give to Jesus – the gift of ourselves. Once we surrender ourselves to God, we will know in our hearts what God calls us to do.

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

Presider……………………. Fr. Tom Schroer, S.M. Assisting............................. Liturgy Planner…………..... Linda Folmar Music Director……………...Teesie Chandler Interpreter for the Deaf........Janet Miller

Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11: Isaiah was announcing the end of Israel's exile in Babylon. He is he one speaking in the wilderness, announcing the fulfillment of all God’s promises. But today, we visualize John the Baptist a the one who cries from the wilderness, announcing the fulfillment of God’s ultimate promise: the coming of Israel’s messiah. John is the new herald who stands on Zion’s peak and proclaims, “Here is your God.”

Acts 10:34-38: Peter is speaking in the home of the Gentile Cornelius who, with his entre household, and although none of them are baptized, has just experienced a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. This was not supposed to happen, the disciples thought. Jesus’ message was for the Chosen people alone. But God shows otherwise and Peter gets the message. He now understands that God really has no favorites and desires the good of all. God accepts all who ‘fear him and act uprightly.” Jew or not, circumcised or not.

Luke 3:15-16, 21-27: John understood the limits of his ministry: “I baptize you with water.” But, even without knowing for certain who it would be, he asserts with confidence that the one who follows him will administer a Baptism of Spirit and fire!

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

CELL PHONES: Out of respect for the liturgy, please silence all cell phones. Thank you!
