Fourth Grade Music Fourth Grade Music

Fourth grade students continue exploring the elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, form, dynamics, tone color. Recorder instruction becomes more challenging.

BandBand Grades 4 and 5 may participate in

woodwind, brass, percussion lessons. As part of Bywood’s Band, students participate in the Winter and Spring Concerts. The Jazz Ensemble performs throughout the district and records a CD.

Bywood BuddiesBywood Buddies

Bywood Buddies are a Project Outreach Program and perform for community events like the U.D. Annual Chicken Festival and U.D. Pride Day. Bywood Buddies perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts.

The Upper Darby Educational

and Cultural Foundation Gala. The Upper Darby Educational

and Cultural Foundation Gala. Select members of the band, orchestra, and chorus are invited to

participate in this annual fund-raiser. Proceeds from the Gala directly benefit students in the Upper Darby School District through the form of grants.

Why include music in the curriculum?Why include music in the curriculum? Memory is a mental system that receives, stores, organized,

alters and recovers information from sensory input (Coon, 1997). Research has shown memory to be affected by many different factors. One of these factors is music, which has been found to stimulate parts of the brain. Many studies have demonstrated that music enhances the memory. Music aids the storage and recall of information in the human memory.
