Butwhilemanyhavequestionsaboutanominationsprocessthatleavessuperstarslike Tim McGrawand Toby Keithconspicuouslyabsent,itisimpossibletofaulttheultimatewinnerselections.Well-deservedhonorswenttoEntertainerKenny Chesney,FemaleVocalistandHorizonwinner Carrie Underwood,andAlbumandVocalEvent(withDolly Parton)recipientBrad Paisley.MaleVocalistKeith Urbanwasgenuinelymissedbackstage,onstageandintheaudienceofhispeers.Rascal FlattsearnedtheirfourthconsecutiveGrouphonor. FastNationalratingsshowedABCaveraginga9.9rating/15share,leadingsecondplaceCBSwhichloggedan8/12. The CMA show’s first hour drew a 9.6/14, hour two
scored 10.7/16 and dropped to second behind CBS’s CSI: Miami in the third hour with a 9.4/15. Last year’s CMA showonCBSearnedanoverallaverageratingof11.1/17. Ifthere’sanylingeringquestionaftersuchasuccessfulshowandweek,it’siftheCMA,andthecityofNashvilleinparticular,canaffordtojumpbackacrosstherivertotheOpryHousein’07.
Country Aircheck’s final 2006 Music Editionwith charts will be published on Monday, December 18, with publication resuming on January 8, 2007. Regular publication of Country Aircheck Today will cease with the Thursday, December 21 issue, and resume on Thursday, January 4.
