Happy Holidays! Putting those shopping lists aside for a moment, let us reflect upon what is really most important in our lives: our family, friends and loved ones. I truly hope each of you will have lots of time to spend with people who mean so much to you during this holiday season.
As the leader of Avery-Hess, I can only say just how important you all have been, and are, in my life. I can only hope I continue to share wonderful moments with you as we continue our journey in business together. At the end of the year I have time to reflect upon many shared experiences, successes, and yes, occasionally a difficult transaction or tough time. Smiles on your faces, enjoying your company, listening to your commentary on the business we all love so much makes it all more worthwhile. Sharing life’s journey with others, whether in our personal lives, or our business lives weaves a much stronger fabric for all of us to enjoy.
Every day when I walk into the office and see the Toys for Tots Santa that Al Crider left for us, I miss him and the excitement that lit up his face when he had another marketing idea to share. I miss the many folks like Maury Stack, Ryan Clark, Nancy Knuth and others who enriched our lives and are no longer with us as we continue in business together. We have a tremendously strong company culture of helping each other and working with each other because we care. I am ever so thankful for that and I look forward to the many years of working together still to come.
What we do on a daily basis helping people accomplish their dreams and create memories to share for a lifetime is priceless. Learn to engage in new relationships each week, be there to help and dreams will come true. Decorate your home, celebrate your holidays with loved ones, give thanks for your accomplishments in 2013, plan your successful 2014 and get ready for another year of Growth, Challenge and Opportunity.
May God Bless and Happy Holidays to the entire Avery-Hess family.

A NOTE ON AVERY-HESS & SERVICE
Recently we said goodbye to a longstanding Avery-Hess agent
and wonderful man, Albert Crider. Al’s time with us was marked
with truly innovative and unique approaches to marketing his
successful Real Estate business, but perhaps more so by his
consistent and unwavering approach to serving the community.
This past year, Al was recognized with the Avery-Hess Distinguished
Service award, and it couldn’t have been more fitting.
This holiday season, Al’s business partner Judy Radvanyi,
with support from the Tysons office, worked to remember
Albert by continuing in his footsteps and helping children in
our area have a wonderful Christmas morning through a
Marine Toys for Tots drive in our Tyson's Corner office.
With members of the Avery-Hess team like Al and Judy, and
every other AHR associate who is willing to support their
local communities, we’re all made stronger and better.
Please share with us and get your officemates involved in
what you’re doing this holiday season to make a difference
in the areas you serve.
We want to wish a big Happy Holidays and a huge Thank You to all of our agents representing us in the
communities we serve. As just a sampling of what some other members of the AHR team have
contributed this season, we have Dave Hess scooping potatoes at the Big Heart Brigade’s Thanksgiving
Feast, Chris Brown and the Tyson's Office representing AHR at the Vienna Turkey Trot to raise money for
the Vienna Volunteer Fire Dept. and JMHS Marching Band, and our Lake Ridge office’s Chili Cook-off
and canned food drive for their local food bank—THANK YOU ALL!
little extra Thanksgiving turkey weight to support
the community and raise money for the local
marching band and Volunteer Fire department.
Thanks Chris for sending in the fun pictures!
Brrr!!!
If you ever have a fun event or community
service project you’re invoved in, please send
us your pictures! We love hearing about all the
ways Avery-Hess agents are making a
difference in their communities!
Feel free to share any fun pictures you from your office Holiday
parties! Katja Hom’s truly ugly sweater took the prize for ugliest
overall at the Tyson’s party and we heard some crazy things went
down in Fredericksburg at theirs… Share your stories and pictures
to get featured in the next MyLife Monthly!
We hope you had a very merry holiday season and wonderful
start to the new year!

2013 Year-End Tax Planning
2013 Year-End Tax Planning summarizes many different federal income, gift and estate tax issues affecting clients that commonly arise at year end. Several items of particular interest this year include:
The new tax on certain investment income: the 3.8% Medicare surtax (see page 1)
The return of the “Pease” limitations on itemized deductions
(see pages 3-4)
The new, 20% maximum tax rate applied to long-term capital
gains and “qualified” dividends (see page 5)
Various provisions that have been extended for 2013 (see pages 9-10)
If you have any questions regarding any of the issues discussed in this guide, please do not hesitate to contact me.
