Austin Publication, Vol. 205 August 2017 Edition Austin Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) is a 501C3 non-profit, professional organization of women and men who work in the media and allied fields. With nearly 10,000 community members, the Austin Alliance for Women in Media is proud to represent men and women engaged in all aspects of creating high-quality media and related services. Asking Austin’s leading women in media: What’s the one piece of advice you wish someone had told you when you joined the workforce? “Dream bigger! The only thing limiting you in your career is the size of your dreams. Once you develop lofty aspirations for yourself, it’s amazing how your life starts to align over the long term to reach those goals. I thought I was being outrageous by making the goal of becoming a GM by 40. It happened at 35!” KRISTIE GONZALES President & General Manager “Live well, laugh often, and love what you do…I’ve been very lucky to be in a business that I truly love. I tell my own kids often to choose a path that brings them joy. When you find the work that you truly love, you never work a day in your life. While some days can be challenging, and others are fantastic, it’s the balance that is achieved by being passionate about what you do that makes it all work.” STEPHANIE CALLIHAN, Vice President, Market Manager “I started in the business very young and obviously young people’s decision making skills are not fully developed. The one that stands out that would have been helpful EARLY in my career “Get everything in writing”!” BREEANNA MALIK, Regional Sr Vice President “Laugh at your successes and your failures ... just don't lose your energy.” LISE HUDSON, Market Vice President “I didn't have anyone tell me to be prepared that not everyone follows up. It's one of the things that you learn along the way that has made me ensure that I pass the follow-up advice along to my team.” CHRISTINE MARTINEZ-ESCOBAR, Vice President, General Manager/Director of Sales
