Dear Friends in Christ,

A blessed and restful weekend to you and your family!

We begin with a quiz. This quiz has two parts. Each part has three questions. Here are the questions in the first part:

1. Name the MVPs of the last World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup finals, and NBA finals.

2. Name five Nobel or Pulitzer prize winners. 3. Name the winner of the last two Miss America contests.

Remember how many of those questions you got right, or perhaps, remembered. Now, here are the questions in the second part of the quiz.

1. Name a teacher who has helped you learn and grow as a person. 2. Name someone who has helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name 2 friends who have been there for you during good times and bad.

Most of us were probably able to answer all three questions of the second part and maybe one question from the first part. This shows that what's most important in life is not always what's most spectacular. The biggest impact does not always make the biggest headline.

So, why do we have that quiz? To drive up a point that what God is asking each one of us to be and to do in our lives may not make the highlights on the eleven o'clock evening news, but they will certainly help someone become wiser and happier, and bring them closer to heaven, and that's much more important. This story, by the way, is adapted from Hot Illustrations, copyright 2001 Youth Specialties, Inc.

This weekend’s Gospel reminds us that our good Lord wants us to live with our eyes fixed on heaven. Jesus the Christ wants us to live today in such a way that we’re ready for the eternal tomorrow of God. Store up treasure in heaven. Be rich in what matters to God.

The pay, like for those who do volunteer, Christ-like, sometimes thankless jobs in our parish, is truly out of this world. Blessings and regards.

Mini Meditaon

On Children

”Children are nothing to be afraid of. They are not there to “steal” anyone’s freedom. They are not intruders who take away our me, energy and money. Children are not unwanted guests but rather blessings from a God who shaers all selfishness in a couple and helps us to live life with gratude and liberang love.”

St. John Paul II

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

From your fellow parishioner

What are your dreams? Here are a few of mine:

1. That our new Parish of Our Lady of Hope truly becomes a family of support for each of us. We have amazing people in our parish and if you do not make an effort to meet them you may have lost the chance of someone coming into your life and making a difference or you making a difference in their life.

2. That our society and financial system change so that we are not slaves to debt and are proactive in creating a real value economy.

3. That there be an end of war between nations. War is such a waste of natural resources and most of all, the souls and lives of our men and women in the military and the needless grief incurred to their families.

4. That our generation of today as well as future generations think and work outside the restrictions of the “box” which limits accomplishments. Time needs to be invested to develop new concepts that are inconceivable today, for the benefit of mankind.

5. Finally, that all those reading this continue to ask for God’s guidance in realizing nothing is impossible for us with God’s help. Remember, there is no such thing as the “box”. Remember the Magna Carta, French Revolution, American Revolution, Women’s Suffrage, CHRISTIANITY, electricity, radio, television, space travel? All occurred with the help of God as we though outside the box.

Truly ask of God’s understanding fulfilling our dreams. This will occur through prayer and through acceptance of our own worthiness and desires. With His help, there is not a supposed “box” that can stop our dreams of goodness and mercy, which is why I know my dreams, which may seem naïve and simplistic to some of you, will come to fruition. Which of your dreams would you like to become reality? Do you totally believe God can make them real or do you just hope they will become real? Belief in Jesus is either 100% or not. Do you totally accept Jesus as your Savior or have you created your own knot that tied you in the confines of the “box”?

REQUIESCAT IN PACE

Please remember in your prayers the happy repose of the soul of:

Carmela Lorraine Lipari

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,

And let perpetual light shine upon her.

WEEKLY MEDLEY August 4, 2019

Funny:

How Was Your Day? "I had just the worst day," replied the man.

"This morning I was up in my plane dusng a field when I nicked a power line and damaged the wing on the plane. When I got back to the office, my boss chewed me out. Then the guy from the FAA chewed me out.

"On my way home, I stopped at a bar and was handed a warm beer. So I yelled at the bartender, 'Don't you have any cold beer?'

"The bartender said, 'Sorry, but we've been out of electricity all day ever since some idiot crop-duster hit a power line down the road.”

Biblical Quote:

“God is love.” (1 Jn 4:16b)

Quote:

“The measure of love is love without measure.” (St. Francis de Sales)

Q and A:

Q: Why do we seek God? A: God has placed in our hearts a longing to

seek and find him. St. Augusne says, “You have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless unl it rests for you.” We call this longing for God—Religion. (CCC 27-30)

Saints for the Week:

August 5 – Dedicaon of the Basilica of St. Mary Major August 6 – Feast of the Transfiguraon August 7 – St. Sixtus II and companions August 8 – St. Dominic August 9 – St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross August 10 – St. Lawrence
