THIS WEEK’S BLUEBIRD REPORT: ONLY ONE MORE WEEK LEFT! We now have only 5 nests containing 16 chicks. Twenty-one more chicks fledged. Once the parents are finished nesting and taking care of fledglings, they are no longer tied to their breeding area and may separate and wander freely in search of food. Grasshoppers, crickets, and spiders are their food of choice when available. Once cold temperatures arrive, they seek out exposed ground or south-facing slopes where the ground may be warmer and insects may yet be active. When the insects are gone, they switch to eating berries. Next week will be our last report of the year. Please send your final bluebird questions or reports to [email protected].
