What genre of magazine do you tend to read?

From the results of the questionnaire, it appears that Music is the most popular genre of magazine to read. I asked people ages 16-20 so I think that is a factor which affected the results drastically. I chose this age group because it is the age category that I am grouped in. Similarly, I want to design my magazine for a target audience of people in this particular age group. This is because it is people of this age that generally tend to purchase music magazines, reinforced by my pie chart.

What TV channels do you tend to watch?

Overall, MTV appeared to be the most popular choice of TV Channel. It is mainly a music channel, which I think relates to the results of the first question. Although, it also airs many programmes specifically aimed at teens.Channel 4 and BBC one were also voted for quite highly as well. I think this is because these channels air the most comedy, an appealing genre of television for teenagers and young adults.

What genre of music do you listen to?

It appears that the most popular genre of music is either R&B or Indie. I think this is because generally these types of music are mainly advertised a lot more than other genres. Therefore making more people familiar with this music. I personally am a fan of Indie music, and as the results show this is a well liked genre; this will be the theme for my own magazine.

As shown by the pie chart, it is apparent that the majority of favourite bands/artists fall into the category of Indie/R&B/Drum and Bass. I will base the content of my magazine on these artists, featuring up and coming artists, whose musical style is similar to these famous bands.

The most commonly used websites are Facebook and YouTube, closely followed by Twitter. These are mainly social networking sites, which are extremely popular (especially among those in the age range 16-20) Due to this popularity I think I might incorporate competitions and subscriptions in my magazine which take place on these sites.

This demonstrates that my target audience regularly attend and have interest in concerts and festivals. In order to attract readers to my magazine I might include the possibility to win concert tickets, or review a festival. Festivals, concerts and gigs are a very important aspect surrounding music and I think this idea will be well received, and follow the conventions of a music magazine.

I think this question was the most beneficial to me. When I accumulated all the answers for the questionnaire, the results for this particular question allowed my to think of ideas to include in my magazine, based on the other data I had collected. Freebies and competitions are clearly a large factor which draws attention from potential readers, and as I have stated earlier in my presentation, I will include these factors.

Audience Mood Board

This is a small mood board, which reflects my findings as a result of the questionnaire it composed and completed. It illustrates some images of the most common answers, and provides basis for the content of my magazine. There is quite a broad range of genres, including websites and bands. However, as have previously stated – I want to compose my magazine around a indie type style with vintage hints, as I think it is quite a different approach. I will conform to most conventions of a music magazine, but make them my own in order to produce a good and well received product.
