Audience questionnaire analysis

As a group we created a questionnaire formed of 10 questions and handed it to 10 members of our target audience. Individually we have now analysed our results in the hopes that we can improve our ideas to suit our audience.

AgeOur target age group is in the range 15-21, so this is the age group we handed our questionnaires to. We handed it to this age group so that we could gather information about what they look for in a music video and whether our ideas were suitable. We didn’t ask any 19 year olds meaning that we do not have a representation of their opinion. The main ages that we asked were 15,16,17 and 21 so these will be well represented in our data.

OccupationThe most common occupation in our age range is students, this gives us an idea of the lifestyle of our target audience. Students are stereotypically the people who go out clubbing and partying which should be reflected in our video. They are also known to be quite short of money which is something that we could consider in our video.

What is your Favourite genre of music?

The most popular genre was chart or pop music, when creating our video we should look at the popular videos of this genre to ensure that our audience would enjoy ours. Our song would fall into this as a subgenre but would mainly fall into the dance genre which was the second most popular along with indie, this means we are targeting the correct audience for our song. There was also someone who said they enjoyed a wide variety of music which meant they are likely to enjoy our song. A small minority preferred heavy metal and house music representing a proportion of our audience that would not enjoy the video.

Beyoncé was the most popular artist so we should take inspiration from her music videos. We should also look at video’s from the other artists suggested and consider the reasons why our target audience liked them and incorporate this into our video.

What would you like to see in a music video?

From this we have found that we would need good locations, our original thoughts are festivals and the beach. A summery and happy vibe should be present, so we should therefore use bright lighting and upbeat shots. Some people also wanted to see dancers which is something we will consider.

What locations would you like to see in the video?

We gave them a list of 5 locations we were considering, so that we would know whether we should film there. The most popular location was the beach so we definitely need shots of this in our video, our majority of shots are likely to be on the beach. Festivals parties and clubs were the next most popular so we will film here where possible. Theme Park was the least popular so we may film here but only include limited amounts of the shots in our video.

We showed them pictures of 4 artists that could potentially be in our video, the most popular was number 4, Leanne, so she will be the artist that we use.

What do you think of our idea?

Overall, our target audience seemed to think that our idea was good and so we have decided to stick to our idea and make small improvements. One person did add that it needed more depth however we think as the majority enjoyed it we will not change our idea completely.

Would you make any changes to our idea? It was suggested that we

should follow a storyline of some kind which is something that we will consider, it was also suggested that we add shots in London so we will try and make time to do this. One other suggestion that stood out was dancers so this may be something we could add to our video to draw in our target audience.
