She has been an art teacher at all levels (K-college) for 35 years and aſter retiring, decided the Fine Art Fair was just the place she wanted to be! e first year she worked on T-shirts, but when the opportunity arose for the newly formed Community Mural, she knew that was the committee for her. is was a chance to a bring hands-on painting experience to people at the Fair who would otherwise feel intimidated to participate. e mural team has put together eleven murals and her connection with Tom Gunter (mural committee creator and leader), Blanca Aranda, JoAnne Wayland and David Cox has been a close and dedicated group of friends! Tom Gunter added that Sue was responsible for introducing the mural committee’s method of letting participants mix the colors for the mural tiles themselves instead of pre-mixing colors for them. is allowed participants to learn as they enjoyed color mixing. Art has always been an integral part of her life and one of her great joys was teaching art history to students young and old. She looks forward to continuing the fun and involvement at this year’s Fine Art Fair! Tickets are on sale now for the popular Nude Attitude event at the Peoria Art Guild from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. is national juried show presents the human figure in a tasteful way. Entries came in from all across the country in a variety of mediums. A number of engaging interactive events will take place in the downstairs studios. Try your hand at figure drawing, painting a human canvas, working on a group mural project and more, with a few surprises throughout the evening! Tickets are $20 for members in advance (limit of 4 per member), $30 at the door, and $40 for non-members. Limited tickets available. e admission price includes wine, beer and an assortment of hors d'oeuvres. Vote for your favorite for the Peoples’ Choice award. Cash prizes will be announced during the reception. All artwork will be for sale, so get there early for the best selection. e show will be up through May 18, 2018. A Peoples’ Choice award was determined by physical votes from the reception as well as Facebook and Instagram “likes.” Rachel Newell received Peoples’ Choice for her “Reveal Your Awakening” collage. Congratulations to all the winners! We hope to hold the Members’ Show again next year, opening it up to all sizes, so get those creative wheels turning. Cathi Hawkinson hung up her Fine Art Fair hat last year aſter more than 14 years of directing and co-directing. You might know Shannon from her days heading the Pekin Arts Center. Shannon brings her passion for the fine arts, great contacts and ideas that will benefit the fair. Kim is retired from Bard Optical. We’ll rely on her marketing, organization and people skills to insure another successful year for the fair. Please give a warm welcome to these talented ladies as they bring their new ideas and enthusiasm to this year’s Fine Art Fair. SCULPTURE WALK 2018 e Peoria Art Guild will be participating in this year’s Sculpture Walk opening day on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Misty Barnes and Lori Luthy will be conducting make-and-take kids projects related to sculpture. e activity will be located on the Sun Plaza at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Bring the kids or grandkids and take part in some creative fun! CERAMICS CLASSES CONTINUE AT THE GUILD Jim Jenkins is teaching another round of ceramics classes at the Peoria Art Guild through ICC. Eric Bell’s colorful rendition was entered into the poster contest. We still don’t know yet in what capacity it will appear, but are anxiously awaiting the issue to see if it might have won an award.
