Keep Shouting It Out! I love hearing all of the great business and referrals that are happening among our members at the membership meetings. Be sure to have your Shout Out ready for the June 26th general membership meeting.

June is going to be a great month for the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce. We have three terrifi c networking events this month arranged to accommodate everyone’s schedule. First, Iverson-Tomasino-Goerss Eyecare will be hosting our business after hours on June 12th . The following week, we’ll be piling in Red Robin bright and early for the Morning Schmooze on the 21st, and we will fi nish up the month at Trigg Banquet Center for our general membership meeting on the 26th. You better order more business cards now.

Not only will we be doing a lot of networking, but we are also in full throttle for the 28th Annual Firecracker Run. This month the majority of our participants will register. As I’m writing this, the staff has informed me that we are already over 390 runners! This is a great event for our Chamber, and a great event for the entire community with the Health & Wellness Expo that follows the race at Rascals Stadium. There is still time to register for the race. (I’ll be out there in my neon shoes! If running’s not your cup of tea register for a booth at the Expo, or volunteer and share some of your great chamber spirit. (We need plenty.) If you have any questions about the 28th Annual Firecracker Run, call the Chamber offi ce at (636) 240-1818.

I hope to see you at one of our many great events this month!

All the best,Cindy ElkingChairman of the Board

re you looking for a way to get your coupon in the hands of potential customers? Or, maybe you’re just tired of paying other so post your discounts online. The O’Fallon Chamber can

help and it’s absolutly free for members to use.

The easiest way to explain the O’Fallon Chamber Daily Deal program is to describe it as two levels of coupon distribution. For over a year members have produced coupons that are automatically posted to the Chamber website, the mobile websites and the member’s websites. Chamber Daily Deals will still post to all of those venues, but when they are a TERRIFIC DEAL... and verifi ed by Chamber staff, they will then broadcast out to all of the Chamber’s DAILY DEAL SUBSCRIBERS.

Once member enters their coupon creator they may create an unlimited number of coupons. They can also stage coupons over time by entering start and expiration dates. Member’s can instantly post coupons automatically to their Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Chamber Social Network accounts.

Your coupons will be reviewed and approved quickly by the system administrator and posted on the website. However, to be added to the Chamber Daily Deal broadcast email, it must be a GREAT Deal! Think in terms of: 2 for 1 Meal, 25% off, Buy One Get One Free, Buy 2 Get One Free, Members Get 50% Off, Buy 2 and Get the Third One Free, 25% Off Graphic Services, 1/2 Off Between 4 and 6 P.M., Get a Free t-shirt with Purchase of $20 or more, Etc.

It’s important we give a strong reason for the public to sign up for these daily deals. Contact [email protected] for more information.

“Along with confi rming the fact that St. Charles County enjoys a fl ourishing population, these rankings show proof that partnerships formed to enhance our county’s health are successful.”

Coupled with the tremendous population growth shown by the 2010 census, these rankings further the notion that St. Charles County is an excellent location to raise a family or start a business. With a premature death rate that is both below the Missouri and national benchmarks, St. Charles County rates fi rst in Missouri in mortality and 12th in morbidity to top the state’s Health Outcomes list. Placing fi rst in the state for high graduation rates and fourth in medical care led to the second-place ranking in the Health Factors category.

The rankings are based on the most recent public data from vital statistics and government health surveys. Statistics measured include premature deaths (those who die from preventable diseases before the age of 75), obesity rates, binge drinking, smoking, access to healthy foods, unemployment, high school graduation rates, pollution, access to primary care providers and self-assessed health status. The “Health Outcomes” are a representation of the health of a community, with rankings determined by how long people live (mortality) and how healthy people feel (morbidity). The “Health Factors” are what infl uences the health of the community, and these rankings are based on the community’s health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic conditions and physical environment.

Although St. Charles County does rank highly within Missouri, there is a great deal that can be done to maintain the ranking and improve on the results. For example, department staff has begun collaborating with area hospitals to conduct community health assessments. The Immunization Clinic provides vaccinations for area children to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. The health education and nursing staffs promote healthy lifestyles and community improvement by conducting instructional classes, hands-on trainings and community outreach on a wide range of health topics for children and adults.

How long have you been in the O’Fallon area?I am a native of St. Louis and have lived in the St. Charles area for the last 30 years. Currently I live in St. Peters. I love living in this great community.

Tell us about your family:I am married to Tim and we have four children. Three of our children are married and we have fi ve grandchildren. Our youngest son, Miles will be a sophomore at Mizzou this fall. Our family loves spending time together and I can never see enough of my grandchildren!

Educational Background:I am a graduate of Lindenwood University. I went through the LCIE program while working as a single mom. My degree took about 8 years to complete but it was a great accomplishment and very special to me.

Tell us about your organization:Our Lady’s Inn is a maternity shelter that provides a loving home and an array of services supporting pregnant women and their children dealing with homelessness. Since 1982, Our Lady’s Inn has served over 5,000 women and children. For more than

30 years these families have been sheltered and supported in their efforts to live healthy and productive lives, attain educational goals, gain employment and secure stable housing.

The goal of Our Lady’s Inn is to provide our ladies and their children with a strong foundation in the development of self-suffi ciency. The Inn was established in St. Louis in 1982 and because of the great need in the St. Charles area, a second facility opened in St. Charles in 2006. We are located right next to the Busch Wildlife area.

Pregnant women have unique needs that general homeless shelters are not equipped to provide. On-site services provide medical care, mental health and substance abuse care, vocational and educational guidance, assistance in securing permanent housing and transportation. Moms have to be working or going to school and can live at Our Lady’s Inn for up to one year. There are 14 rooms that stay full. In addition to working, the moms are required to attend classes every evening. We also provide an “aftercare” program that provides long-term support for our families who are in their own apartments.

Our Lady’s Inn could not continue without the generous outpouring from the St. Charles Community. Most of our daily tasks are completed by volunteers from cooking meals, providing inside and outside maintenance, teaching classes, playing with our children and much more. We invite you to join us with our fundraising efforts, holding a paper product drive, volunteering and coming for a tour. We would love to highlight your business with a sponsorship at our Luncheon for Life at Wine Country Gardens and bring some of your clients to this wonderful event on Thursday, September 27. We are also hosting a Golf Tournament in Forest Park on June 20. For more information, I can be contacted at 636-398-5375 or [email protected].

I have a very special job because I see lives changed every day by helping our moms believe that they can achieve their dreams of caring for their families and achieving self-suffi ciency. Together, with your help, each day at Our Lady’s Inn, we are rebuilding lives…one mother, one baby, one family at a time.

On June 28, representatives from several St. Charles County agencies will practice the implementation of an emergency response plan. Coordinated by the health department, responders will simulate the response to a biological terrorism incident in St. Charles County, which would require medication for all residents within 48 hours. For this exercise, a drive-through medical distribution site will be established near Mid Rivers Mall, where responders will practice their roles in the response. Operating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the fi rst 500 participants in the exercise will receive a sandwich and gift bag provided by Chick-Fil-A (6180 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters) as a thank you for assisting in the event. If you or your organization would be interested in participating as a drive-through patient or as a volunteer responder, please contact Joe Morin at 636-949-7554 to register.
