K-12 Working Group

• This was the deadline for a progress report

• WG Chair unable to continue on TC

• Recommend disbanding unless someone wants to step up!

• Possible new life with specific targets:

• A ~ 2-page white paper that describes what AFM is and what we do (aimed at high school/college students and teachers)

• A 1-page hands-on demonstration of something we do that is fun and simple (aimed at middle school students and teachers)

• Don’t be afraid to steal … or borrow

• Any takers?

• 1 Chair and 1 rep from each Subcommittee

• 1 year to get them done

TC Membership Update

• We Have Survived Downsizing

• We’re Now “Leaner and Meaner” (well, leaner anyway)

• If You Are Due to Rotate Off in 2009…

• Consider extending for at least one more year

• Under 35 years old and International Members don’t count toward roster limit

• We should ask for a 4-year commitment, rather than 3

• If You Aren’t Sure When You Rotate Off, Ask!

• Let Me Know ASAP if You Want to Stay On

• You’ll need a special assignment

• Conference General and Technical Chairs should stay on through their conferences

State of the Committee (cont.)

• Consider Holding Subcommittee Meetings Prior to the TC Meeting

• Allows a bit more focus for each subcommittee

• Doesn’t break up the TC meeting

• Maybe end TC meetings earlier

• Could use the same room, just start earlier

• Could hold TC meeting later in the week

• Some Overlooked Items that Deserve Future Focus:

• TC Member Handbook: Update annually

• Financial state of the TC: Do we have any finances?

• TC self-promotion: Define useful ways to spend TAC $$$

• Education: Seek out and promote short courses and tutorials

• Publications: Actively pursue special journal issues
