Before the Interview Learn about the reporter before hand.

Know his/her name, the station they work for, or the paper he/she is writing from.

Be prepared. Practice your interview skills prior to the actual interview. Preparation creates comfort and more opportunity to participate in a live interview.

Dress in Lincoln University apparel, show up on time, shake hands with the reporter, and make eye contact.

During the Interview Be yourself. Let the reporter get to know

you as a person, not just an athlete.

Give credit to teammates, coaches, and fans. Be confident, but not cocky.

Never use foul language, slang, offensive phrases, or jargon. Be appropriate.

Keep your answers complete and concise. Do not reveal any private information about yourself, your teammates, or the program.

If you do not feel comfortable answering a question, simply say, “I can not answer this question.”

After the Interview Thank the reporter and show apprecia-

tion of his/her work.

Address any confusion that may have occurred during the interview.
