1st Batch: 9th January 2017- 8th April 2017
Total Intake: 20 Interns (Post-Graduates in Life Sciences including Geography)
Total number of Interns who completed the Course: 14 Interns
Course contents: The course consists of 2 parts
1. Capacity building & Training of the Interns through
a. Theory Sessions on different topics of biodiversity conservation.
b. Practical Field & Laboratory visits
2. People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBR) Exercise in between theory & field visits at their
assigned Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs)
Theory Classes: It consists of two half day sessions a day by two Experts on different topics
a. 24 sessions covering 21 topics as given below:

ii. Introduction to BMCs, their operationalization and PBRs

v. Grassland ecology with special reference to birds/Manas NP
vi. Human - Animal conflicts
vii. Research Methodology
viii. How to prepare projects for funding
ix. Role of media in wildlife conservation
x. Remote sensing and GIS technique (Theory & Practical: 2 days)

xii. Urban Biodiversity
xiii. Wildlife Genetics studies
xiv. Ethno-botany
xv. Identification and preparation of plant herbariums
xvi. Butterfly diversity
xvii. Primate research in NE India
xviii. Overview of Vermicompost
xix. Orchid diversity of Assam
xx. Understanding Climate Change

Selection of Best Intern: 1 (One)
The Interns were assessed on the following:
i. Class attendance
ii. Interactive skills in Classes & Field visits
iii. Field work skills (alertness, survey & observation skills etc)
iv. Presentation skills
v. Their understanding of the subject covered through a written examination
vi. Quality of the final report (PBRs & Documentary)
A Garmin eTrex GPS was given to the Best Intern as token of best efforts and punctuality.
Valedictory Function: held on 8th May 2017
i. Course completion certificates were distributed
ii. Best Intern Award presented.
