VBS Volunteer Meeting
Sunday, June 16th, 3:00 pm, Ashland Hall
Thank you for continuous efforts in supporting Epworth Children’s Home through the Mother’s Day offering. In addition to providing residential care for children and youth, our mission is growing through the recruitment of foster parents. The month of May also happens to be Foster Parent Appreciation month. Foster parents play such an important role in providing a loving, nurturing, safe and stable home to a child until their permanent plan is reached; be it return home, live with a relative or adoption. There are currently close to 5000 children in foster care in South Carolina. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a home readily available to take a child, a sibling group or a teenager when they need it! And if that home was in the community from which the child was removed so the child can remain connected to so many things they risk being removed from! There are not enough homes to fill the need! We ask that you pray about how you can help this growing ministry. There are many ways to help including becoming a foster parent. Please contact Sherri Mims, 803-828-7724 or our website epworthchildrenshome.org
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl shelf is in need of more shawls. As you enjoy your summer, please consider knitting or crocheting a prayer shawl so someone in need of prayers can be comforted. There will be a dedication in early September.

Columbia Camp: July 20 – 27, 2019
Beginning Sunday, June 23, please check out the Salkehatchie GIVING TREE in the narthex! To help with purchasing supplies for camp, you may choose one or more ornaments, which have suggested items needed. These supply gifts are to be returned no later than Sunday, July 21. Thanks for your support of the Columbia Camp! Be in prayer for all the Ashland adults and youth who will be attending Salkehatchie Camps around the state this summer.
Ashland continues to save Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Soup labels and aluminum can tabs. Place these items in the containers beyond the library on the bookcase shelves.
Ashland’s six circles are Faith, Hope, and Love in Action. The Action includes various missions. One is Killingsworth, a United Methodist mission in downtown Columbia that houses women in transition. Through the year the 18 residents receive individual bags in the fall, Christmas, Valentine’s, Easter, and spring, the circles collect household products and linens.(Last trip down was a whole trunk full!) One circle had an “Unbirthday Party” complete with cake, ice cream and hand decorated bags of favors for each resident. The circles’ monthly programs include (1) church members as Jane Foster sharing about Red Bird Mission (a United Methodist mission in TN), Val Songer teaching members how the Snack Pac Program for 7 Oaks is done; (2) various programs presented by members on missions, Bible studies and the history of UMW. The UMW Prayer calendar lists daily the birthdays of all Methodist missionaries, global and in the United States. Our 100 ladies have written a card to every missionary listed! (We began with 70 cards at our UMW birthday event in March.) That is about 425 missionaries! Definitely The 100 ladies of our circles are definitely Faith, Hope, and Love in Action.
