COMPANY OVERVIEW

Asakheni Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2003 as a consulting engineering practice, primarily providing civil and structural engineering design, documentation and co-ordination services to projects in the built environment. The principal focus of the work undertaken by the firm is in the field of commercial property development.

The company has implemented an in-house training programme for graduate technicians. To date, Asakheni has trained over 20 such technicians and 7 such are Engineers.

Some of them have become permanent members of staff at Asakheni and others have been appointed to permanent positions in other South African Consulting and Construction firms.

Along with gaining workplace experience, all Asakheni employees are encouraged to take up company study bursaries to further their formal studies and continuously develop themselves.

TECHNOLOGY

Asakheni’s technical documentation is based on a 3D computer model from which its design and documentation is generated. This ensures that all documentation is tied back to a single source - the model, minimizing duplication and the risk of error and greatly enhancing the design co-ordination process. 2D drawings are extracted from the model. Modelling is done using Microstation CAD software and Revit.

The core of each project is the 3-dimensional computer model of the site, the building structure and the associated civil services.

Drawings for the project are extracted from this model and the maintenance of the model at full accuracy becomes the center controlling activity for all documentation. Through this system, the documentation is made available to the whole team, including the client and the contractor. The system operates over the Internet and allows for the viewing of drawings with a web browser, without the use of a CAD package.

Asakheni’s project delivery system is based on a fundamental project workflow that identifies each successive step in the project delivery process. The workflow acknowledges each development stage in the project with the necessary work reviews and approval cycles.

Delivery of Asakheni’s projects in accordance with this system earned the company ISO 9001:2000 certifications in the second year of our existence.Our Quality Management System was audited by Dekra in December 2005 and Asakheni was highly commended by them as “an exemplary small enterprise…well managed and has a very effective QMS suited for its size, structure and business”

Nedbank Phase II is a Multi-million Rand 4 star green rated Development situated in the heart of the Sandton business district on the corner of Rivonia Road and Maude Street, opposite the Village Walk Shopping Mall.

NEDCOR PHASE II PERSPECTIVE

This prestigious corporate office consists of two retail levels supporting two H-shaped office blocks extending 7 floors with a central multi-volume glazed atrium. There are four levels of basements, 3 levels for parking and 1 level for black water treatment and other services.Asakheni Consulting Engineers and WSP Group were the joint Civil/Structural Engineers on this project.Construction of this project started in 2008 and has been completed and handed over in 2010.

Asakheni Consulting Engineers and WSP Group were the joint Civil/Structural Engineers on this project.

Lebone II is a R540M development and is the flag ship primary and secondary school of the Bafokeng community, located in the North West Province of South Africa.

The school is a high performance learning environment; the configuration of the classrooms and communal spaces between buildings creates an open and engaging place for learners and teachers to confidently engage in the interactive process of learning. The main teaching space of the classrooms is square with a courtyard in one quadrant, providing ample natural light and ventilation. Learning and teaching opportunities are enhanced in this open flexible space that provides space for participation by all involved in the learning process.

Wrapped on two sides of the class room are ablutions, locker niches and teacher’s office. This integration of the support spaces into each class room gives the teachers and learners ownership of these spaces making them more personal and less institutional, which intern creates an engaging learning environment. The clusters of class rooms are arranged in ‘villages’ consisting of a gradation of spaces from small locker niches shared by four learners to the amphitheater for gatherings of the whole school. This richness of communal space fosters a school community where every one belongs, promoting participation in learning.

The environmental impact of the facility is minimised by passive design that maximises, natural day light, glare controls, natural ventilation. All water used on site is fully recycled. Buildings and sports field where placed on previously damaged portions of the site and arranged so as to save significant existing trees.

This 5000sqm Shopping Centre was built at a cost of R24m.The centre is directly linked to a taxi rank and train station.Asakheni were the Civil & Structural engineers on this project, which formed a second phase to the Taxi Rank. The Taxi Rank was also designed by Asakheni and won an award for the best Tubular Structures conferred by Steel Institute. Construction of this project is completed and handed over.

Asakheni Engineers were the Structural Engineers on this mixed use development in Muscat ,Oman The complex was designed and documented in South Africa with a local Oman team providing client liason and municipal approvals.

Gate of Kuwait Office and Hotel TowerVALUE OF WORK: $150million

Asakheni provided Structural Engineering & Project co-ordination services on a landmark office tower in Kuwait City. This iconic project comprises a 69-Storey Office and Hotel Tower with a banqueting Podium and an adjacent Parkade .The hotel will be managed by the Four Seasons Group on its completion.

Gate of Kuwait The project is a mixed use development involving the construction of a 70-storey tower named Gate of Kuwait. The tower is located in Al Sour street in Kuwait City with a built-up area of 127,000m² and will provide 5000m2 of retail space and 122,000m2 of office space.

This building will tower 272m into the sky and it is expected to be the tallest building in Kuwait .The envisaged project value is US $150m.

Asakheni Consulting Engineering assisted LC Dubai with the structural engineering design as well as producing 3d model which generated all the drawings.

Greefspan & Herbert Solar FarmVALUE OF WORK: R20 Million

Asakheni Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Tenesol South Africa (Pty) Ltd to design the civil component of the 10MW and 20MW photovoltaic power stations for Greefspan and Herbert solar farms respectively. These sites are on either side of Douglas, Northern Cape. These are two multi-million projects in the innovative renewable energy sector expected to assist the Eskom energy demands.

Asakheni Consortium has been engaged as the Technical Advisors and Civil/Structural Engineers to design, co-ordinate, project manage and implement this project with an initial rollout cost of R3.4 billion. Asakheni Consulting Engineers has already travelled all of Zambia’s strategic routes collecting data for the entire network of roads, visiting all the border posts and major cities/towns in Zambia.Asakheni Consulting Engineers (PTY) Ltd. has appointed expertise from various disciplines to engage with them on this challenging project under the umbrella of Asakheni Consortium.

Asakheni Consulting Engineers is currently engaged with the Master Plan for the entire road networks and Phase1 to Phase 4 is well under way.

Fairmont Residences, Palm Jumeirah are two exceptional apartment developments framing the Fairmont Palm Jumeirah hotel and resort, the most prestigious address in Dubai. The R3.8 billion apartments development at the heart of the Palm’s vibrant hub, comprises of an extraordinary collection of chic cafés, upscale boutiques and meandering waterfront walkways, The Fairmont Palm Residence, comprises of 558 deluxe apartments, townhouses and penthouses, each one of which boasts unusually spacious accommodation, directly linked to the five-star Fairmont Palm Hotel Resort.

The Fairmont Hotel is a separate development centered between the two L shaped appartment blocks, developed at a cost of R3.0 billion. Asakheni Consulting Engineers assisted LC Dubai with the structural design of Fairmont Residences as well as producing the 3d model that generated all the drawings.

was built on top of the Gautrain servitude and due
