We aren’t given all the details of their journey. We really don’t know how long their journey took. It may have been as long as two years. What impresses me about the Wise Men is they were intentional, committed and determined to find and worship the king of the Jews. They intentionally set out on this journey not knowing where it would lead them. They committed themselves and their resources to seeking and worshiping Jesus. They were determined. I’m sure they faced numerous obstacles on the journey, but they didn’t give up. They kept going. They kept following the star. They stopped and asked for directions (truly Wise Men). They didn’t let the obstacles keep them from seeking Jesus. While reflecting on this story, I was reminded of Paul’s words to the Philippians. My Determined Purpose

While reflecting on the story of the Wise Men following a star, I thoughtabout their commitment and determination to find and worship Jesus. Wearen’t given all the details of their journey. We really don’t know how long theirjourney took. It may have been as long as two years. What impresses me aboutthe Wise Men is they were intentional, committed and determined to find andworship the king of the Jews. They intentionally set out on this journey notknowing where it would lead them. They committed themselves and theirresources to seeking and worshiping Jesus. They were determined. I’m surethey faced numerous obstacles on the journey, but they didn’t give up. Theykept going. They kept following the star. They stopped and asked for directions(truly Wise Men). They didn’t let the obstacles keep them from seeking Jesus.

While reflecting on this story, I was reminded of Paul’s words to thePhilippians. In chapter three, he expresses his desire to know Christ and hiswillingness to lay everything aside so that he might know him. The AmplifiedTranslation expresses it this way.

“For my determined purpose is that I may know Him

that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, …”

Philippians 3:10

In his devotional classic, My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambersbegins the New Year with these words, “I am determined to be absolutely andentirely for Him and Him alone.”

Others can help us in our spiritual journey, but we must be intentional, committed and determined to seeking and worshiping Jesus. We will havestruggles on the journey. We will face obstacles on the journey, but if we arecommitted, intentional and determined, we will find him and make him knownin a new year.

Let us make the following our prayer. Lord, my determined purpose for 2019is that I might know you and become more deeply and intimately acquaintedwith you. Amen.

In His Hands,

Monty

It's about time to start getting registered for SYC Camp and Mission Trip! This summer, our Sr. High (completed 9-12) will be taking a mission tripthrough FUGE Camps to Mobile, Alabama June 3rd-8th. We will be workingwith inner city youth and kid's clubs (similar to YMCA's) while there! We willbe flying again this year, and so we need a firm number on who is going bySunday, February 3rd. We will also need a deposit of $200 at that point so wecan work on buying plane tickets. The other $100 will be due the first of May. For a fun activity, we will be spending time at the beach at Gulf Shores!

For our Jr. High, we will be going to SYC at Sacramento again! I've been inthe planning meetings, and it should be even better than last year! SYC isJune 17-21, and will cost $150. This is for our Jr. High students, but we wantto welcome any Sr. High who would like to go also!

As always, don't let money be a reason your student is not able to attend oneof these events. We have scholarships available if you will talk to Russ. Onepre-requisite of these scholarships (or actually for the validity of anyof the above prices) is that a student participate in at least 4 of ourmonthly service projects between August and April. Most have alreadytaken care of this, but if you haven't and plan to go on one of these trips, pleaseget this taken care of.

Service Projects

The last Sunday of every month, the youth will be working within thecommunity, and hope to be able to serve many of our own who may need somehelp around the house. We are open to any kind of project, and want to put outour dates ahead of time this year so that if you have a major project, you can letus know well ahead of time and we can make sure to have enough people andequipment when the time comes! Here are our dates for this semester!

January 27thFebruary 24th

March 31stApril 28th

As these dates come up, feel free to call us at the office or let Russ know that

you have a project for us! This is so important to our youth group as we striveto be doers of the Word and not hearers only! We also dream of this becominga church-wide project. So please, adults, look at these dates and see if maybeyou could give up one Sunday afternoon this Fall to serve the people of yourchurch and community!
