What is Presentation?
The practice of showing and explaining the content of a topic to an audience or learner
Elements of Presentation: Information Education Entertainment
Structure of Presentation
The Rule of ‘Tell them’Tell them what you are going to tell them, Tell it to them, and then tell them what you told them
Outline (Overview) – Material – Conclusion
First is ‘Biting’
Need to develop a curiosity of the audience related to the material and show them that it is significant
Basic Rules of Good Presentation
1. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
2. Preparing and Rehearsing the presentation
3. Don't go too fast or too slow
4. You cannot please everyone
Making Power Point Slides
Good Slide Structure and Font
Write in point, not in complete sentence Include 4-5 points per slide Use at least an 18 size font and standard font
such as Times New Roman or Arial Use different size font for main points and
secondary points– This font is 24 size, the main point font is 28 size,
and the title font is 36 size
Bad Slide Structure
This page contains too many words for a presentation slide. It is not written in point form, making it difficult both for your audience to read and for you to present each point. Although there are exactly the same number of points on this slide as the previous slide, it looks much more complicated. In short, your audience will spend too much time trying to read this paragraph instead of listening to you.
Bad Slide Font
If you use a small font, your audience won’t be able to read what you have written
CAPITALIZE ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO READ
Don’t use a complicated font
Good Slide Colour
Use a colour of font that contrasts sharply with the background– Ex: blue font on white background
Use a colour to reinforce the logic of your structure– Ex: light blue title and dark blue text
Use colour to emphasize a point– But only use this occasionally
Bad Slide Colour
Using a font colour that does not contrast with the background colour is hard to read
Using colour for decoration is distracting and annoying.
Using a different colour for each point is unnecessary– Using a different colour for secondary points is also
unnecessary Trying to be creative can also be bad
Analyzing Good and Bad Slides
On the Stage …
1. Relax and Reduce your fear
2. Focus on eye contact with your audience
3. Vary your voice tonality and speed during your presentation
4. Slow down, smile, and breathe
5. Be Interactive

Five important things to do in Presentation Provide the Outline, Material, and Summary Use the effective supporting slides Rehearsing before a live being Act on your information Take away supporting materials that help them
