This Thesis envisions an alternative that transforms the existing media landscape
of Singapore. Singapore is trying to promote to be the next Global Media City
where media services and projects are created, developed, traded and distributed
to the international market. In support of this vision, Singapore builds a
Mediapolis @ one-north.
Mediapolis @ one-north was masterplanned by Bernard Tschumi. However, from the
rendersrenders it showed that there are individual units which do not encourage the
exchange of media cultures in Bernard Tschumi’s Masterplan. Media is constantly
changing in terms of platforms, the technologies used and approaches.
The Thesis attempts to counter Bernard Tschumi’s Masterplan by promoting a new
culture and context that will support media exchange and interaction as well as
the ever-changing trends by use of virtual reality and creative distractions.
TheThe entire masterplan consists of several various programmes which include office
building, permanent studios, temporary studios, media park and centre spine of
TV Theatre, hotels, food retails and residential apartments.
One-north which was masterplanned by Zaha Hadid in 2001, It was initiated by Singapore government in 1999.
TheThe vision is to create a vibrant and robust global hub of knowledge driven industries and develop an exciting place
of vision & inspiration to attract, nurture and sustain a dynamic, vibrant and enterprising community. One-north is
a place for these diverse talents to work, live congregate, or just be there to interact with each other to exchange
ideas, collaborate and strike deals, or simply to have fun. One-north also is a place to attract talents of various
trades; innovators, students and professionals, technopreneurs, researchers, venture capitalists, corporate law-
yers, investment bankers, business consultants, e-commerce specialist and even media stars and artists.
One-North @ Singapore
Bernard Tschumi’s MasterplanMediapolis @ one-north was masterplanned by Bernard Tschumi. In his design, he treated the masterplan as a coin with two sides.
““On the "head" side, he implemented a "narrow street" loop as a common denominator, distributing all active local vehicular and pedestrian traffic, shops, and restaurants and aiming at excitement, with multi-colored electronic banners visible at all times of the day, comparable to the most active and dense street life of the best world cities. It is simultaneously shaded, protected from rain, and well lit both day and night. On the "tail" side, namely on the part not directly in contact with the street loop, he encouraged the ultimate creativity of forms, volumes, and architectural expression. In contrast with the street side alignments, hehere invention is encouraged: a feeling of playful freedom. he wanted the tension between these two sides to be a challenging and constantly provocative environment for film-makers and multimedia designers, underlining today's paradox of urban density and free form and architectural free play.
The system of urban paradox—both free form and densely continuous—produces pragmatic benefits as well. The plan facilitates the development of the studio complex and dedicated facilities, as lowerscale developments in the first phase. Landscaping integrates itself into the strategy as a diffused network. The free-form breaks in the street wall provide opportunities for iconic architecture and signature elements, whether for corporate branding or residential luxury. At the same time, the regularity of the street wall facilities a thorough organization of access routes and support services. Perhaps most significantly, the density of urbanurban space defines an active and porous ground plane for inhabitants to work, learn, and engage in creative and collaborative play.”
However, from the renders it showed that there are individual units which do not encourage the exchange of media cultures in Bernard Tschumi’s masterplan. Media is constantly changing in term of platforms, the technologies used and approaches.

Slow Down Hotel - a hotel that was aimed to calm down and relax. Unlike other spa
hotel, the aim is to relax and indulging in a comfortable atmosphere. Based on
the five senses, controlling pace and movement, a certain kind of consciousness
and concentration can be achieved.
ThisThis project targeted stress people from Singapore and Malaysia who choose to
have a possibility to be in an interesting, high cultural surrounding and away
from their busy daily life. The historical city centre of Malacca has been listed
as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Having located near to the Portugese Square
close to the coastline and away from the city, it provide a wonderful and
soothing view to the sea and a lookback to the city.
TheThe challenge of this project was the site with 300m long and 9m wide, the
architecture tends to be narrow and long. In order not to make the journey within
the hotel to be mundane, it was breakdown into serveral parts. With bedroom units
being sandwiched in between the amenities, it provide the tourists opportunity
to get surprises when they experiencing through the journey of the hotel.
