TOGETHER—RENEWING OUR COMMITMENT TO GOD & OUR COMMUNITY
Faith Are You Ready to be Pruned?
Are you ready for a trim? In today's Gos-pel, we hear the fa-miliar teaching of the vine and the branch-es. Jesus reminds us that if we remain close to him-living in humility, following God's law, loving our neighbor-we will notice a positive change in our life and the lives of those around us. "Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit." The Holy Spirit is life-giving. He is fruitful. The Spirit of God won't refuse grace to a heart that is open.
As we progress through life, learning how to live and love, we grow. Our personalities flower. We discover what it is to be a blessing to others. We al-so experience lack, loss, and the results of our fail-ures. We know what it is like to "wither" at times, particularly the times when we willingly separate ourselves from Jesus. "Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so nei-ther can you unless you remain in me." For most of us, this experience of being disconnected and off track generates a desire to return to what is right and good, to return to the vine.
But this Gospel is more than "Are you in or are you out?" Even when we remain in God, when we fol-low Jesus, we are not exempt from the challenge, the pruning. "Everyone that [bears fruit] he prunes." A prudent trim is necessary in the natural world of trees and vines. Dead wood, broken shoots, and dis-eased branches need to be cut back in order for the plant to bear fruit. Jesus wants us to be healthy! He says as much himself: "By this is my Father glori-fied, that you bear much fruit and become my disci-ples." Take a look at your life today. Where are you bearing fruit? Where do you need to be pruned?

Events at SJV
The Volunteers Here are Fabulous!
For over eight years now, I have worked on a part-time basis as your parish accountant. Each and every year, I enjoy all the major parish fund-raising events, be it the Platinum Din-
ner, Fish Fry, Spring Festival, Pig Roast, Bingo or the Rummage Sale. I’ve picked up some great deals at the Rummage Sale and even won third place once in the Platinum Dinner raffle and twice hollered “Bingo!” Recently, I felt compelled to ask Father Skaria if I could write something in the bulletin to salute the many, dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to pull off these great and enjoyable fundraising events, as well as all the other wonderful people who devote their time to the religious and operation-al functions required of a parish. I am still a bit of an outsider here (my home parish is St. Cecilia’s in the Midway area of St. Paul where my wife, Jeanne, has been music director for 25 years), working at St. John Vianney only a few afternoons each week. I have, however, become acquainted with several pa-rishioners over the years and enjoy saying hello and visiting with you at the parish events. Having helped manage many diverse national busi-nesses and non-profits over some 35 years now, I’ve witnessed some terrific volunteer efforts and worked alongside many dedicated folks. Yet I am truly struck by the sturdy parishioners here at St. John Vianney, many of whom are the vital and creative sustainers of this place. I hope each of them knows the value of their tireless volunteer work and the very real and tangible effect it has on this parish. God can’t help but see it as well. But for what it may be worth, I wanted you all to know how much I am impressed with the deep individual commitment found here, coming from one who regularly sees the direct financial value to the parish which that com-mitment provides. This parish is blessed to have all of you who volun-teer and less you ever doubt it, your work absolutely provides a critical foundation necessary to secure a solid future for this parish.

A very special acknowledgement for all of the Reduce-Reuse Rummage Sale volunteers, coordinators, cashiers…etc. As a result of all of your hard work and commitment we took in over $6,000!! What a fantastic outcome. Thank you for your continued commitment to SJV
8th Grade Trip to Wolf Ridge The 8th graders had an amazing experi-ence on their 8th grade class trip to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center! Each student challenged themselves to try something new. While there the students hiked the Superior trail, challenged their fears on the ropes course, experienced a taste of how the Ojibwe people experi-
enced life in the Northwoods, practiced their situational awareness skills while orienteering, learned about the constellations from many cultures' perspectives, and observed birds in their natural habitat. It truly was a fantastic way to cap off their experience at CoS! We are so proud of them. Thank you so much for various methods of support we received that made this trip possible!
Announcing Early Catholic Family Life (ECFL) at Community of Saints! Do you want to connect with like-minded parents in a welcoming and supportive environment? Do you want to learn the best in child devel-opment and how to teach the Faith? Do you want to deepen your relationship with your child? Then join us for Early Catholic Family Life (ECFL)!
At ECFL, we believe that a child’s first and most important teachers are his or her parents. Our mission is simple—connect parents with their peers and empower them to raise their children optimally in the Faith. ECFL welcomes families with children 0-5 years old. Its 8 sessions facilitate parent-child interaction, parent discussion time, and chil-dren’s learning time.
We are excited to bring this opportunity to our school and sponsoring parishes’ communities. We will be offering the program at Communi-ty of Saints on Saturdays from 9am-11am, beginning April 7th and ending May 26th. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO SIGN UP! There will be a cost of $5 per session. Please contact the school office to learn more, ask questions and sign up! Angie Lopez: 651-457-2510 or [email protected].

No worry about forgetting your envelope at home or what you wrote your check amount for, SJV’s bank & yours keep track of that. Call us today, we are more than happy to help you out.
