Hi everyone hope your Easter went well and you

enjoyed your spring break! We're finally in the long

stretch to the end of the year and we're going to

make it great! As always please read the newsletter (at

least skim it!) so you can get an idea of what's going

on. Let's start this service year off with a bang!

Hi!

My names Lovina John and hopefully through my weekly

updates you've been getting you'll know I'm the new

Lieutenant Governor! If you can't tell I'm super excited to

start my new position! I know I have some pretty big shoes to

fill, but I hope to do everything I can to be the best LTG I can

be. My main goal is to help you and your Key Club grow into

the club YOU want it to be. Each one of you are individually

awesome and, by working together, I know division 13 can be

just as awesome. The journey has just begun and I can't wait

to meet each of you throughout the year. My contact

information is at the end so feel free to talk to me about

anything! Thank you so much for giving me this amazing

opportunity and I can't wait to see where division 13 will go!

So to begin, Hi! My name's Lovina John (just clarifying). I'm

currently a junior at Minisink Valley High School. LTC

concludes my two years service as Key Club president. Being

president was hands down one of the most fulfilling

opportunities I've experienced and it's definitely what makes

becoming LTG bitter sweet. I certainly will miss my position

in my own club as I go on to lead our division

My

As with any position of power, I plan to use my power as a

lieutenant governor to further better the clubs in our

division 13. Our past lieutenant governors have done an

amazing job pushing division 13 to where we are today, but I

would like to continue this growth by instilling the acronym

CAPE or Communication, Access, Projects, and Efficiency.

•increase communications within clubs and within our

division by organizing more inner club meetings and events.

•access to all the necessary materials on one easy website.

Using Past Lieutenant Governor Daniel's website, I plan on

using that to our advantage by posting any resources needed

including ice breakers, and project ideas.

•promote more fun projects that help many as the year

progresses.

With all the above measures being taken as well cooperation

throughout our division, division 13 can grow even more

into an amazing, efficient division.

What have Division 13

clubs been up to?

Middletown Key Club decided to help out a local day

care, House on the Hill located in Goshen, with their

annual Easter Egg Hunt by donating 500 eggs. House on

the Hill is a day care that devotes their time to the

children of migrant farm workers by providing early

childhood education and social services. At the event we

scattered the 500 eggs filled with different types of

candy. After the egg hunt the children took pictures

with an Easter bunny that we provided for the event. We

plan to continue helping out with this event.

What have Division 13

clubs been up to?

The Minisink Valley Kiwanis Club worked with the Minisink Key Club to hold a Hunger

Walk at Shannen Park. The walk collected goods for the Hudson Valley Food Pantry! It was a beautiful day for all Kiwanis, Aktion,

and Key Club members as well as other families. This walk raised over 1200 pounds of

food which was delivered to our local food pantries. The total money on hand at this

time is $1950 and will be sent out to the food bank. Congrats on an amazing event that will

help so many families!

Monticello and Fallsburg Schools also participated in the Hunger Walk by walking on the Rails to Trails in Mountaindale. The

newly founded Aktion club joined as well as Kiwanis members from the Callicoon

Club. This walk also raised money for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and the food

collected went to United Way of Sullivan County.

Congrats on an amazing

event to both clubs!

Upcoming Events! Wasil Ahmed will be holding a Color Run on May 21 at

Chester Academy. It would be great to see other Division

13-ers there!

"Hearts of Hope" will be a 5K Color Run hosted at

Chester Academy May 21st to raise money and awareness

for Colon Cancer. It's a cause I've been working on with

my club advisor Paige Rose and school Principal Denis

Petrilak since June. The reason it's about Colon Cancer is

rather personal, as my mom was diagnosed with Colon

Cancer back in November of 2013, and so to be able to do

the run and raise money and awareness is really a blessing!

I'm excited for it because we've been planning with six

other schools around Orange County to reach other

communities and get their towns involved. Since it's a

Color Run, it will be unique and unlike other walk/runs in

the area, and having the six other communities'

involvement only makes it more special. Between the other

schools and Chester, we hope to have a big turnout and

raise lots for the cause. It will be on the Heritage Trail,

starting and ending at Chester Academy, and at the end is

where the paint would be thrown at runners, like a

traditional Color Run. ”

District Projects!

The District Board had narrowed our District project down to three

organizations: Save A Child’s Heart, The American Foundation for Suicide

Prevention, and Icing Smiles. We had a survey sent out so YOU could decide what

would become our District Project for 2016-2017. The Project will be announced in Governor Garber’s first monthly video, which will be released May 1st on the

District Website!

Governor’s Project

For those of you who don't know, each year

the District Governor of the New York

District Key Club gets to chose a cause to

specifically advocate. This year District

Governor, Matt Garber, has chosen the

project called "Voices for the Blind" which is

all about empowering the blind and visually

impaired children by promoting education,

leadership, and confidence. We hope to do a

lot for this project so if you have any ideas

please send them in!

What can you do?

Fast Facts:1 baby dies every 9 MINUTES from tetanus.

160 BABIES die each day from tetanus.

MNT has been eliminated from more than 35 COUNTRIES since

2000.

A series of 3 DOSES of tetanus vaccine = immunity from tetanus

Woman + vaccine = protected baby

US$1.80 protects 1 woman and her future babies. (That’s less

than lunch!)

The Eliminate Project saves or protects 61 MILLION women

and their babies.

Celebrate Eliminate Week this week to help

eliminate MNT! 24 COUNTRIES still have MNT

and we can do something. Plan a whole spirit week

or collect money at your next meeting, but definitely

try and do something got this amazing organization!

LTC!

“This was my third year attending LTC

and I swear it gets better every time. It

was a great weekend where I not only

learned so much but met so many people

who all share the same passion of helping

others. This LTC was especially special

to me because I was inducted as your

Lieutenant Governor, which was an

incredible honor for me!” – Lovina John

The New York District Key Club’s Leadership Training Conference

brings together the divisions within the New York district. Our

division, division 13, joined 23 other divisions up in Albany for a

weekend of fun and learning. 2016 LTC was held March 18th-20th t

the Desmond Hotel in Albany. It was a great weekend from

informative workshops to meeting so many people from all around

New York! We hope to see you there next year!

The Leadership Training Conference is one of my favorite times of the

year. I always look forward to meeting new people, seeing old Key

Club friends, and the fun workshops. This year, our Keynote speaker

Tom Krieglstein gave everyone “Free Hugs” signs and challenged us to

get as many hugs as possible throughout the conference. I took that

sign and walked around the entire conference center, with a few

friends, giving hugs to anyone I saw. This was perhaps my favorite

part of LTC 2016 because I made a lot of friends and took advantage

of Tom’s challenge. LTC is the best way to see how big Key Club

really is and the impact it has all over the world. - Andrew Connor,

Junior at Tamarac High School Division 18

ICON is pretty much LTC times 100! It's a fun event with a

bunch of people and learning opportunities (and fun!). This year ICON is in Atlanta, Georgia, and our District's trip will last from July 3rd to 10th, with a stop in Williamsburg, VA. The

price is $950, the deposit of $500 is due May 1st, and the rest of the balance is due June 1st. This trip is open to anyone so

encourage members to check out more information on it!

LTC! Next year’s LTC will be held March 31st- April 2nd at the

Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY. We hope to see you there!!
