King Antonio and El Rey Feo visit LISD. It was a bit chilly outside but it was a colorful

and fun kick off to Fiesta this morning. Students were treated to gold and silver coins and the

spectacle and pageantry as both courts arrived escorted by motorcycle police.

Student’s Willow Devine and Robert Fogleson were recognized for their academic

achievements.

Speech teacher Mrs. Patty Brown was also rewarded for her excellence. A fun time was had

by all!

The first grade class held its annual Fiesta Shoebox Parade today. Students, faculty and parents lined the breezeways as the kids pulled their awesome creations along the parade

route. It was a fun and exciting event. Congratulations to all who participated and worked so hard to make this extravaganza possible.

STACEY STUCO ATTENDS STATE CONVENTION By Samantha Pearson, Junior

On Sunday, April 7th, 20 Student Council leaders and their sponsor, Mr. Doug Poludniak, left on a trip to Arlington, Texas for the 77th TASC State Convention. The school that sponsored this convention was St. Agnes Academy, which happened to be the first private school and first all-girl school to sponsor. When the students walked into the convention center they were hit with a burst of energy. Everyone was hustling and bustling, campaigning to get you to vote for their schools, and dancing! There were African American Dancers on a stage in the back, and everybody in there was captivated. Those were not the last dancers they saw because the theme was “Celebrating Diversity and Uniting in Leadership.” Over the period of three days they embraced many different cultures by watching African American Dancers, Chinese Dancers, Hispanic Dancers, Country Swing Dancers, Step Teams, Choirs, and more! During the first day, the students interacted with schools campaigning for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Parliamentarian. Later that night, students were moved when the Keynote Speaker Dr. Michael Fowling touched on sensitive subjects; moving some to tears. He taught us that it is ok to be different and to accept others that are different. The next day, students participated in three different stations. "Table Talks" is where they got to choose to learn about 3 out of 76 different Student Council projects to bring back to their school. They also listened to another speaker, Tyson Dever, who was paralyzed from the waist down in a horrific car accident 12 years ago. He taught us that attitudes affect everything because the worst thing could happen to you, but if you are down and depressed about it, you will accomplish nothing. They also got to choose 1 from 11 Multi-Media Presentations; all ranging from drunk driving to making Mondays matter, to a senior-only session.

I went to the DWI: Driving Without Intentions, and it was a very sobering presentation. The presentation included very graphic stories and pictures; there were no boundaries on any of the pictures, and some people had to leave the room. After all three of the different stations, the students were released for lunch. After returning, students filled the auditorium to listen to skits from the campaigning schools. The skits ranged from videos to tiny plays to dancing to singing, and they were highly entertaining to watch. When the skits were finished, everybody was released to go to Six Flags at Arlington! We spent five hours at Six Flags and rode many rides and enjoyed a buffet dinner there. The third and final day, the winners were announced! The new officers for the 2013-2014 school are: Franklin High School for President, Texas High School for Vice President, Carroll Senior High for Secretary, and Keller High School for Parliamentarian. We also listened to our third and final speaker, Jason Hewlett. He taught us to find the one thing that makes us different from everyone else. His one thing was that he could imitate hundreds of people and make more than a thousand faces! The TASC Convention was very memorable, informational, and fun. We learned, laughed, cried, and experienced many different cultures. It is definitely a thing to do during your high school years!

Mrs. Stacey’s Birthday By: Lauren Goff, Freshman

Students and staff enjoyed cake and cupcakes at the picnic tables on Monday, April 15th. It was a celebration of Mrs. Virginia Allred Stacey’s 86th

birthday. Mrs. Stacey, our school’s namesake, was a former teacher and Lackland ISD superintendent. The school was named for her in 1997 for her dedication and many accomplishments for the students of Lackland. Mrs. Stacey passed

away in January of 2000. All of the Stacey STUCO members brought in cake or cupcakes. It was fun,

and everyone enjoyed getting free desserts and celebrating in Mrs. Stacey’s honor.

The Stacey High School prom is just around the corner. The dance will take place

Saturday, May 4th in Arnold Hall. Tickets are now on sale for $25 each and will be

sold up until Friday, May 3rd. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door and must be

purchased before the day of the dance. So make sure to stop by Mrs. Cashion's

room (room 4603) and purchase your tickets as soon as possible. The theme for

this year is Paris Under the Stars--we hope to see you there!

Hey everyone have you noticed our Girl Scouts around school this year? Not

only in our Elementary but our Junior and High school as well. Currently we

have 48 girls and 23 parent volunteers, which is AMAZING since we are all

brand new!!!!

The Stacey High School drama department put on its Spring play, Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, on April 12th in the elementary gym. The audience not only had the chance to watch the show, they also enjoyed a three

course meal cooked and served by Mrs. Duron and her students. The lead role of Jean Brodie was played by Megan Poffenbarger, along with supporting roles like Sandy, played by Shelby Coppinger, and Teddy Lloyd,

played by Caleb Granstrom. Only one senior took part in this play, Xavier Sanchez, who played Mr. Lowther. The students played their characters brilliantly, making for a very entertaining show. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is a British drama, based on the novel of the same name written by Murial Spark. The novel

was turned into a play by Jay Presson Allen, and opened in London in 1966. Jean Brodie is a teacher at a school called Marcia Blaine, in Scotland. She is known for romanticizing fascist leaders such as Benito

Mussolini and Francisco Franco, and believing herself to be in her prime, she devotes her time to her four special students, or her Brodie set: Sandy, Jenny, Monica, and Mary. Besides working with her girls she also

encounters the eye of two other teachers, Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Lowther. As the set grow older Sandy begins to drift away from the group. Brodie has an incredible amount of influence over the girls, and uses them to do

her own bidding. She influences Mary to go to Spain to find her brother, but in a turn of events she is killed on a train that was bombed. In the end Sandy confronts Brodie on her terrible ways and betrays her to Miss

Mackayand and the schools board of governors, who later end her career at Marcial Blaine, and putting an end to her dreadful ways. The show went off without a hitch and ended with joyous applause as the cast took

their bows.

On April 11th, our track & field team took a trip to Charlotte for the 1A Area track meet. The runners had already surpassed the District meet and were prepared for

this Area meet. Stacey has 13 competitors moving on the Regional meet next week.

The child development class has been learning about preschool age children and invited them to cook with the class. After reading Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds, the class took the initiative to

make carrot muffins. The preschool student measured ingredients, added them to the bowl, and mixed them up. While they were baking with the kids made their own “creepy carrots”. This gave the child development class an opportunity to learn about children in the pre K ages and gave the

pre K students an opportunity to cook.
