BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD)

The College of Education and the diverse departments within the college prepare candidates to be competent, caring professionals in a diverse, technological society. As part of this strategic vision and alignment to the TTU Flight Plan, students are engaged in many curricular and field-based activities that require constant access and integration of technology. As a result, all students are required to have an entry-level (primary) portable computing device (laptop). Note that secondary computing devices like tablets can be used, however, they are not considered primary computing devices.

For more information on requirements, hardware, software, and financial aid support, please visit: https://www.tntech.edu/education/bring-device.php

COMMUNICATION AND NOTIFICATION OF STATUS

Potential 2+2 candidates should expect the majority of communication to be done by email. Please be sure to provide a valid email address that you check regularly on your 2+2 Intent to Participate. Also, please be sure to check your “junk” folder from time to time to ensure you are not missing any important information. If you notice some emails going to your “junk mail”, please be sure to add that individual to your safe sender list. It may also be a good idea to add the important contacts listed in the directory (p. 3-4) to your address book. Failure to provide a working email address and failure to check your email regularly may result in missing important information and updates.

Beginning in April 2020, candidates will begin receiving Requirement Checklist emails from the Office of Teacher Education ([email protected]). You will receive these periodically up to the June 15th deadline. Please note that these emails contain an attachment that includes your checklist of items received or not received by the Office of Teacher Education.

Acceptance letters for Admission to the Teacher Education Program AND Admission to the 2+2 Program will be sent AFTER THE JUNE 15th DEADLINE. Potential Teacher Candidates will not receive an official status letter before the June 15th deadline regarding acceptance into the program.

REMAINING BENCHMARKS: ADMISSION TO RESIDENCY I, RESIDENCY II, AND PROGRAM COMPLETION

Information on remaining benchmarks will be given to you upon admission to the 2+2 Program. These benchmarks will cover the last two years of your program and licensure completion. During the last two years of the program, you will begin your Field and Clinical Practice. Field and Clinical Practice is an integral part of the College of Education’s teacher candidate preparation at TTU. The College of Education plans quality experiences in school settings that range from classroom observational experiences early in the program to pre-residency experiences where beginning instructional skills are practiced under the direction of a mentoring teacher.

Pre-Residency field experiences may include between 30 to 90 hours of involvement depending on the course associated with that experience. During candidates’ early field work they are encouraged to gain additional experience with several grade levels through volunteer or after-school programs. Clinical Practice is the culmination of the teacher preparation program and involves the Residency clinical experience. Residency candidates should expect a year-long field placement in one school setting and with one mentor. Interaction with schools, mentors, and students gradually increases.
