As we approach our 23rd annual production of The

Nutcracker, we are reminded of all the things that make

Ballet Apetrei so special. At the top of the list is

community support, and an appreciation for the gift of

ballet to our area. As you know, Ballet Apetrei could not

exist without its members and sponsors, and for that we

say thank you! We hope each of you will start your

holiday season by sharing The Nutcracker with us,

both in the theater the weekend of Dec. 3-4, and at our

2nd Annual Nutcracker Tea on November 27th.

!Ballet and Beginner Pointe, Jazz & Tap Level II A, B, C (9-13 year olds) This level is divided into 3 groups. Placement in these different levels will be determined by age, training and ability, and is solely decided by the school directors. Dancers at this level should take 2 ballet classes per week in preparation for pointe work. Classes consist of barre work, stretching, and center work. Beginner pointe classes are offered for 11 to 12 year olds who have had sufficient training. Dancers’ muscles, bones and technique must be sufficiently developed to begin pointe. Placement in pointe class is decided solely by the school directors. Pointe classes are offered for Levels IIB and C. A one hour jazz/tap class is offered at this level. The class consists of a ! hour of classical jazz technique and ! hour of tap technique.

Dance Programs: Pre-Ballet & Tap (3-5 years old) Students must be 3 by August to participate in this class. The class is 1 hour long once a week. The class will consist of very basic ballet exercises, movement and coordination steps (such as marching, skipping, galloping) stretching, creative movement, and 20 minutes of basic tap instruction. Ballet & Tap Level IA (5-6! year olds) Students in this level must be starting kindergarten or 1st grade. The class is one hour long once a week. The class will consist of 40 minutes of ballet technique and 20 minutes of tap technique. Ballet & Tap Level IB/1C (7-8 year olds) Placement at this level will be determined by age, training and ability. Placement is decided solely by the school directors. Classes at this level consist of a 45 minute ballet technique class and ! hour of tap technique. Ballet classes consist of barre work, stretching and center work. !

!Dancenter Directors: Kelly and Constantin Apetrei opened the Dancenter in 1988 after retiring from professional ballet careers. Constantin is a native Romanian who graduated with highest honors from The Bolshoi Ballet in Russia. He has performed with the Fantasio Ballet in Romania, and various ballet companies in the U.S. including the Dallas Ballet. Kelly, a native New Orleanian, has danced professionally in New Orleans, Hartford, and Dallas. Kelly and Constantin have four sons and are a very active family in our community.

School Philosophy: All ballet classes are based on the Russian Vaganova Method. All placement is decided by the school directors, and is based upon each child’s age, ability, training and development physically, as well as technically. We take pride in offering you the highest quality of instruction, and take this responsibility seriously. We feel it is important for your child to learn structure, self-discipline, respect and love of dance, and most importantly, gain a strong self-esteem. At the end of each year, students have the opportunity to perform in a full-length ballet as their “recital” program. A Tap/Jazz program is an additional highlight of our Spring performance.

BIG SIS/LIL SIS!! On September 24th, the sounds of laughter and music filled the Ballet Apetrei studio for much longer than they would on a typical Saturday afternoon. Junior and Senior Company Dancers pulled an “all-nighter” as they shared the annual Big Sis/Lil Sis sleepover. While bonding and growing closer as a company were the main goals of the evening, a project was also in order. The dancers worked in pairs to create one-of-a-kind decorated pointe shoes which will be auctioned off at the 2nd Annual Nutcracker Tea on November 27th!

1) Silver Slipper members (and higher) may purchase reserved seating beginning TODAY – NOV 1ST – and until NOV 7th when tickets go on sale to the general public.

2) ALL members are invited to the Wine & Cheese Patron Party beginning one hour before each performance....from the Wine & Cheese reception, you are granted early seating BEFORE General Admission, so if you have general seating tickets, you will be amongst the first to select your seats!

- Tickets are available NOW to the Membership of BALLET APETREI (Silver Slipper and up) and are being sold at the Apetrei Dancenter Mon-Thurs 4-6, Sat 9-12. Beginning November 7th, tickets may be purchased at PINEAPPLE GALLERY next to the Dancenter on Asbury Drive in Mandeville. Tickets are $35 (Front Row) $25 (Reserved Seating) $15 (General Admission) and $10 (Students/Seniors). While remaining tickets will be sold at the door, it is strongly suggested that you purchase ahead of time.

- Once again, Sergiu Brindsua and his wife, Beth Moore will dance the lead roles of the Cavalier and Sugar Plum Fairy…truly a pas de deux you want to see repeated!

- Participants in The Nutcracker School Shows…if you indicated your school on your audition form, your school will be contacted and informed of your participation. However, please note that it is each individual participant’s responsibility to speak with her teacher/school administration about the absence. BALLET APTETREI can in no way obtain an “excused absence” for you, but we have verified your important role on December 2nd.

- Please refer to your Nutcracker Information Sheet (or see copy posted at studio) for arrival times and responsibilities during “Nutcracker Weekend”…we ask everyone to be on their toes (yes, literally in some cases!) and do your part to ensure a smooth production!

- NUTCRACKER GIFTS? Save your shopping for performance time…our BALLET APETREI BOUTIQUE will be stationed in the lobby of Benet Hall (St. Joseph’s Abbey) for all your ballerina gift needs (t-shirts, Nutcracker necklaces, seat cushions, and more)

- Can’t get enough “Land of the Sweets” this holiday season? Don’t forget costumed dancers will be on hand at both the NUTCRACKER TEA (Nov. 27) and WINTER ON THE WATER (Dec 10)
