“Dates to Remember”

Welcome

2013 has begun very smoothly and I am delighted to report that the children have settled in wonderfully well and all programs are up and running. We begin this year with over 930 children and 80 dedicated staff. There has been significant work done around the school over the break and we have opened our new Year 5 Learning Community classrooms. I look forward to another great year and encourage all parents to be active participants in their child’s education. If anyone ever has any concerns during the year please contact me directly so that we can address them together.

New Assistant Principal

Hello everybody! My name is David Payne and last week I was delighted to commence my involvement at Lynbrook PS as an Assistant Principal. I spent much of the first week visiting grades and getting to know the staff and students who I hope to work with for many years to come. As I expected, my first impressions were very positive given the outstanding reputation of the school in the area.

I have spent the last 7½ years as Principal of Koo Wee Rup Primary School and I expect my experience and knowledge as a leader will provide further support to an already strong leadership group at the school. Prior to my tenure at KWRPS, I was an Assistant Principal at Hampton Park Primary School – perhaps there are still some families at LPS who were members of that community prior to our school opening in 2005.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months and would be delighted if you introduced yourself to me next time you are at the school.

Prep and Grade 1 Attendance

As per previous year’s organisation the Preps and Year 1 students do not attend school on a Wednesday during February as they are allocated individual times to attend on these days for in-depth testing. This is a School Council agreed policy.

Assembly

This year our whole school assemblies will be conducted on a Monday morning commencing at 9:15am. This change of time will give the teachers an opportunity to set the tone for the week ahead. Parents are always welcome at these assemblies. If you have young children please make sure that they respect the assembly and remain under your supervision.

New Staff

We welcome many new staff this year and I am sure that they will make a significant contribution to the quality of staff that we already have. Welcome to; Ms Emma Rogers (Prep), Ms Allanah Phillips (Prep), Ms Madeline Chernishoff (Prep), Ms Erin Stevenson (Grade 2), Mrs Leona Gray (Grade 4) and Mr Adam Andrews (Grade 6). We also welcome back Ms Melissa Peacock, Mrs Amanda Michie, Mrs Carla Kennedy, Mrs Anna Porch, Mrs Nicole Piening and Ms Ebony Callanan. Mrs Neena Chandra is leaving us today as she is beginning her maternity leave. We wish Neena all the best for the arrival of her special baby and look forward to catching up with her in the near future.

Class Commencement Time

In order to ensure a smooth start to the school day, the music in the morning will start at 8.45 am as a signal for children to make their way into class. This will give students, teachers & parents time to unpack bags, hand in lunch orders & notice, take the attendance roll so that students are ready for a prompt 9.00 am start to the working day. We hope this arrangement will enable us to maximise learning time & eliminate late arrivals to class.

Harmony Day 21st March

Please contact the office if you are interested in performing on this fun and exciting day.

Mobile Phones

Please DO NOT ALLOW your child to bring items of value including Mobile Phones to school. Under the school guidelines the school will not be liable for the loss or damage of any mobile phone. If you require your child to have a mobile phone for out of school hours they must be kept in their bags as the teachers are unable to hold or store them here at school. The Mobile Phones are not to be taken out at recess or lunch. They are the sole responsibility of the child.

Art Smocks

If children in senior grades do not have an art smock they are able to bring along an old shirt to cover their school uniform during art lessons.

School Uniform and Hairstyles

The School Council of Lynbrook Primary has a compulsory school uniform policy which is sanctioned by the Education Act. All children must wear the appropriate uniform at all times. The policy also states that radical hairstyles and colour are not permitted. Parents are asked to reinforce the correct uniform including hats and jumpers.

Parking

The continual parking concern remains at the school. If you fail to obey parking signs and local by-laws officer photograph your car you will receive a fine of up to $200. On the first day of school I tallied up cars that broke road laws and the council would have received more than $2000 in fines for one day!

Footsteps Dance Company

We have contracted the dance company, “Footsteps” to run a dance program at the school this year. For this year the school will fund the program but it will be included in school levies next year.

Russell Gascoigne, Principal.

Please read and obey the signs along the front of school to avoid fines.
