PROGRAM OVERVIEWThis program is an annual course that encompasses the broadfield of general surgery. It is designed to provide surgeons,internists, and advanced practitioners with a clinically orientedupdate on current topics, issues, and concepts in general surgeryaddressing advances and controversies alike. During this 2 dayprogram experienced clinicians will cover multiple subjects,providing the information by which to guide patient treatmentand management strategies. Dedicated time allotted within eachpresentation for Q&A will help make your learning experience interactive.

In addition, this program allows for the opportunity forFundaments of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS™) certification.*

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES This activity will address the ACGME/ABMS Medical Knowledgeand Systems-based Practice competencies.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:• Formulate treatment and management plans for the broach

field of general surgery and in particular acute care surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, oncologic surgery, and breast surgery

• Implement strategies to prevent or minimize complications

FUNDAMENTALS OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (FLS™) CERTIFICATIONLahey Hospital & Medical Center is a FLS-accredited test center.Opportunities for FLS certification will be made available throughseveral time slots during the course. Registration for FLS has tooccur prior to April 15, 2016. In order to register for the exam avoucher must be purchased through SAGES using the followinglink: http://www.flsprogram.org.

After you have purchased your voucher please create a useraccount but don’t schedule your exam. This will be done the dayof the course. Also after you have purchased a voucher you willhave access to the FLS didactic material which would be prudentfor you to review as the FLS exam includes a 90 minute cognitiveexam which is completed during the exam time slot. We willhave FLS stations available for you to practice the skills on priorto your exam if you would like. But if you have this equipmentavailable at your home institution, it would be a good idea topractice before you attend the course. The certification will takeplace in the Lahey simulation laboratory during the time of thecourse. This includes a multi-choice exam administered viacomputer and a manual skills assessment using the FLSLaparoscopic Trainer Box. Additional information is availableunder http://www.flsprogram.org.*This is not a SAGES/ACS FLS course.*FLS testing time is not eligible for the postgraduate course’sAMA Category 1 Credit™. CME credit for FLS is availableseparately through SAGES.
