Anne was a normal girl, just like everybody. She fought with her parents, she was in love with a boy named Peter.

Anne had one big dream: becoming a famous writer. After her death, her dream came true.

The Diary

When Anne was 13 her parents gave her a diary. She called her diary ‘Kitty’. She wrote about everyday life. After the occupation Anne began writing about being a Jew and Hitler’s rules. She wrote in her diary until she was captured.

The diary of Anne Frank is the most translated Dutch book ever. More than 30 million copies are sold all over the world. In 1950 the book was first translated in German. Since then the book is translated in more than 60 languages.

‘Het achterhuis’

This is the door in ‘het achterhuis’. Her lives Anna and her family and the family van Pels. In November 1942 joint Fritz Pfeffer to the achterhuis.They were helped by Miep Gies, Victor Kugler, Johannes Kleiman and Bep Voskuil. She lived in ‘het achterhuis’ from 6 July 1942 to 4 August

1944.

The campsAnne was brought to Westerbork, Auschwitz and finally

Bergen-Belsen. In march 1945 Anne died in Bergen-Belsen, just a few weeks before the war ended.

Why should everybody read this book?

There are many books written about the second world war. But this book is a real journal from a teenager. This makes it easier for young readers to relate to Anne and her stories.
