Parrot

For this project we had to create a simple parrot-shaped polygon, apply a texture and then create a short animation. As I didnt have any experience in 3D before, this exercise helped me to understand some essential modelling, rigging and UV texture tools. I definitely enjoyed the process of texturing, although I decided to go with a simple design.

High Noon

For this project we were asked to create an animation sequence based on the storyboard. Although the provided scene already included two character models, I decided to add some extra ones. This was done in order to emphasise the tension between two main characters as the civilians are reacting to characters actions.

The environment of the scene is quite simple, as I decided to concentrate on animation. I used flat colours for texturing, although some of the houses have hand drown textures.

Animating process was a little challenge for me, as the models didnt contain any joints. Although on the one hand it made the animating process simpler, the main issue was to show characters emotions through body language. That is why in some shots I decided to emphasise it with camera angles. In order to make the movement look more vital, I added some overlapping actions for characters heads, guns and bottles.

Overall, I enjoyed making this project. I think the environment needs improvement as the models are quite simple and their arrangement is neutral. If I could add some changes to the scene, I would have added more models of such objects as barrels in order to improve the camera shots.

The Stood-up Animation

For this project we had to model a character based on existing illustration and show his reaction on being stood up. My first choice was the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oze. I liked the style of illustration, as it provides an alternative look for the well-known character.

My second and final choice was the robot from the Iron Man book. Although the illustration is really simple, it gave me opportunity to improvise and add my own features

As modelling is not my strongest side, I decided to draw some details on the texture. The UV unwrapping wasnt the easiest tusk, but I still consider texturing my favourite and most successful part of the project and Im really happy with the result. The sense of volume and metal look was achieved with bump map.

Final animation doesnt look like the original storyboard, as I decided to change the direction of the story while making the preview. But the initial concept remained the same: robot is waiting for his friend, but he never comes. The most difficult part of the project was rigging, as I had some problems with the paint weights and attachment of the nurbe curves. I think animation needs more improvement as the walk cycles could have been more fluid, but overall Im quite happy with the result.

To sum up, I feel like all my work needs some improvement as it lacks some finishing touches like high quality render and music effects.
